Job description

Perioperative Anesthesia Support Nurse Practitioner (NP)

For over 30 years, ASPA's commitment to excellence in patient care is what has enabled us to remain the largest anesthesia group in Delaware and one of the largest private practice anesthesia groups in the country. ASPA is the exclusive anesthesia provider for ChristianaCare, home to Delaware's only Level I trauma center. In addition to the care we provide at ChristianaCare facilities, we also provide anesthesia care for patients at multiple Ambulatory Surgery Centers, and Sedation Dentistry Centers. Our Anesthesia Care Team is comprised of 40+ board certified anesthesiologists, over 100 certified registered nurse anesthetists, and an administrative support team. ASPA has administered a total of more than 67,000 anesthetics involving all surgical specialties across its facilities. Our prime location in northern Delaware is within close proximity and just a short commute via automobile or train to many major cities such as Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York.

Anesthesia Services P.A. (ASPA) is seeking a dedicated Perioperative Anesthesia Support Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team. This role plays a vital part in supporting high‑quality, patient‑centered care by assisting with evaluation, coordination, and management of patients in the perioperative setting.

The NP will work closely with anesthesiologists, the PEP/PAE team, surgical teams, and perioperative staff to ensure safe, efficient preparation and follow‑up for surgical patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preoperative chart reviews for inpatient add‑on surgical patients.
  • Respond to questions and requests for information from consults, PEP, and PAE teams.
  • Assist in coordinating care for upcoming surgical cases.
  • Evaluate postoperative follow‑up patients on the inpatient floors.
  • Assist anesthesia providers with blocks or other invasive procedures.
  • Rotate between anesthesia offices located in the Surgery Center and Main ORs.
  • Answer and respond to office phone calls.
  • Respond to consult requests and review concerns/questions with an anesthesiologist.
  • Conduct blood‑refusal interviews and complete required documentation.
  • Evaluate all in‑house CCHS epidural/OnQ catheter follow‑up patients.
  • Assess obstetric patients after wet taps for potential post‑dural puncture headaches.
  • Place preoperative medication orders for next‑day surgeries in COR, CSC, and WOR.
  • Document accurately and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, and physicians.
  • Support the Department of Anesthesiology staff and participate in required meetings.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines and standards of NP practice.

Please note: This job description is not intended to be all‑inclusive. Duties and responsibilities may change at any time with or without notice.

Qualifications
  • Active NP/APRN licensure in the State of Delaware.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Credentialed for moderate sedation within 3 months of hire.
  • Appropriate credentialing to provide services under the Department of Anesthesiology.
  • Professional liability coverage (ASPA‑employed NPs are covered under the ASPA malpractice plan, per Specified Health Professional Rules).

Why Join Us?

You will be part of a highly skilled, collaborative anesthesia team dedicated to excellence in patient care. This is a hands‑on, dynamic role that allows you to directly impact surgical outcomes and patient safety within one of the region's leading healthcare systems.
