BayCare - PACU
WILL NOT ACCEPT A CANDIDATE WHO WAS PREVIOUSLY STAFF FOR AURORA BAYCARE PACU-MAX 4 DAYS RTO
• About Facility:
o Green Bay, WI
o Level II Trauma Center
o Level III NICU
o Level III Maternity Center
o Primary Stroke Center
o Beds: 167
• Unit Information:
o Beds:
• Main PACU: 33 pre/post rooms, 10 Phase I PACU bays
• East PACU: 33 pre/post rooms, 17 Phase I PACU bays
• Main and East are in the same building. Main is on 2nd floor; East is on the 1st floor. Will get daily staffing sheet to know which PACU to report to
• Census? Average patients/day? 60-80 patients per day combined through East/Main
o Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years Phase I/Phase II
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Will consider if extensive PACU experience
• Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Inpatient, outpatient, observations. Peds and adults.
o General, plastics, urology, GI, bariatrics, GYN, minor vascular, neurosurgery (spine, cranies), Robotics cases, ophthalmology, ortho, cardiothoracic (thoracotomies/pericardial windows, no open hearts), ENT (sinus, PE tubes, T/As), endovascular, fistulas, bronchs, post-cath, post-IR/Neuro IR
o Vented/ICU level patients typically go to ICU post-OR, but could occasionally have intubated patient or assist with intubation in PACU
• Patient Ratios:
o Pre-op: 1:3
o Phase I: 1:2
o Phase II: 1:3
• Required License, National Certification, Certs:
o RN: BLS, ACLS, PALS; CAPA or CPAN certification required (will take either)
o CNA: BLS
• Skills required:
o RN: Experience in PACU with above patient types, read/interpret cardiac rhythms, manage cardiac gtts, providing discharge instructions (will work Phase I and Phase II recovery).
• Experience recovering post-cath, bronchs, IR patients HIGHLY preferred; send for manager approval if minimal or no experience.
• Hard stops: art lines, TR bands, chest tubes, CBI, EPIC
o CNA: Experience with blood sugar checks, IV removals, clipping and scrubbing surgical sites, cleaning, restocking
o It is everyone's responsibility to help everyone out. Nothing is "just a CNA or LPN" duty
• Support within the Department:
o Charge RN
o Management
o CNA/LPN for department to float around and help out (mostly in pre-op and Phase II)
o Bedside and Nursing Station Tele, no Tele Tech
o Hospitalist 24/7
o RT 24/7
o Anesthesiologists/CRNAs
o Surgeons
• Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: EPIC - required for RNs
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Pyxis
• Floating: If yes, where?
o Travelers will float regularly between Phase I and Phase II Recovery for Main+6 PACU and East PACU
• Orientation (facility and unit):
o NEO
o 2 8h shifts in the department
• Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: None
o On call? None
• Not allowed to pick up call or weekends
o Holiday Expectations: None
o Approval of RTO: No more than 4 days of RTO will be approved.
o Shift times: Refer to requisitions
o Schedule cycle: Set schedule, Monday - Friday, hours dependent on requisition
• Other notes:
o Scrub Color: Any solid color, professional. No logos, graphics, designs
o Parking: Free parking lot
