Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Global Advanced Technology team builds and delivers the technologies that will power Baltimore Aircoil Company’s (BAC) next generation of products. As part of BAC’s Advanced Engineering organization, Advanced Technology develops and matures disruptive technologies across a broad range of domains, including thermal, water, materials, acoustics, digital, and sustainability-related applications, that create long-term competitive advantage and support BAC’s vision to reinvent cooling to sustain the world.

The Manager, Emerging Technologies provides technical, project, and people leadership for a broad portfolio of technology development initiatives. The role is responsible for building team capability, ensuring disciplined execution, and delivering validated technology outputs that support BAC’s long-term growth objectives, and is accountable for the performance, effectiveness, and continuous development of the Emerging Technologies function.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead the Emerging Technologies team, establishing priorities, allocating resources, and developing technical capability and team effectiveness
  • Champion a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence
  • Manage a portfolio of Emerging Technologies projects, ensuring safe, on-time, on-budget, and high-quality execution
  • Develop and maintain the Emerging Technologies resource plan, project roadmap, and talent development plan in support of Advanced Technology priorities
  • Partner with the Senior Manager, Advanced Technology to prioritize projects, manage risks, and align resources with business and technology priorities
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts, and external partners and suppliers to align priorities, secure resources, and resolve execution challenges
  • Develop and present project proposals, technical recommendations, action plans, and progress updates to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Drive continuous improvement of project management practices, technical methods, processes, tools, and standards.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members while holding individuals accountable for commitments and results
  • Serve as working project leader for complex or business-critical technology development programs, managing scope, schedule, budget, stakeholder communication, and execution
  • Participate in Advanced Technology planning, portfolio reviews, and cross-functional innovation initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise and support across the BAC organization

NATURE AND SCOPE

The Manager, Emerging Technologies reports to the Senior Manager, Advanced Technology and leads one of the core teams within BAC’s Global Advanced Technology function, alongside Technology Scouting, R&D Design and Testing, and Heat Transfer Systems. The role is responsible for the performance, execution quality, and capability development of the Emerging Technologies team, and requires frequent interaction with Global Product Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Global Marketing, and external technology partners.

This role combines technical leadership, people leadership, and project leadership, requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities, influence diverse stakeholders, and deliver results in environments characterized by technical uncertainty and evolving business needs. Initiatives span multiple technology domains and varying levels of technical maturity, requiring sound engineering judgment and effective prioritization of resources and activities.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field required; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in R&D and new product development environments, including at least 2 years of formal leadership experience managing technical personnel.
  • Professional experience in thermal-fluid systems engineering or related disciplines, including heat transfer, fluid flow, thermal management, energy systems, or other relevant technology domains
  • Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong engineering judgment and ability to manage technical uncertainty, risk, and complex engineering challenges
  • Ability to lead technical teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver complex projects successfully
  • Strong project management, planning, organizational, and execution skills
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional teams
  • Ability to develop technical talent and hold individuals accountable

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with CAD, FEA, CFD, numerical modeling, testing, data analysis, and/or code development
  • Experience working with universities, research institutions, startups, suppliers, or other external technology partners
  • Familiarity with intellectual property, technology scouting, and technology development processes

BAC Hiring Compensation Range $124,500 to $213,300
