Job description

Hunt Valve Company has been manufacturing shipboard valves for naval customers for decades. The Engineering Department is responsible for valve design, production engineering, and project management activities. Engineering provides support to other departments including Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Quality. Candidates will possess a moderate degree of business awareness along with a passion for the engineering discipline. We offer a unique working environment that allows a hands-on engineering professional to develop and grow their technical skills and business acumen and support critical naval defense activities for domestic shipyards as well as international allies.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Essential Job Functions:

  • This position requires the ability to understand the technical requirements of our Naval customers and to implement engineering solutions to meet these demands.
  • Reviews and executes product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements.
  • Coordinates activities with in-house manufacturing shop personnel and our outside vendor base concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Development of new weld process tests, mockups, and ownership of process through design, fabrication, testing, and customer review
  • Qualify new vendors and establish sound working relationships.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
  • Develop working knowledge of Hunt Valve Company products and industry requirements. This will include mechanical drafting work and an “apprentice” program in the manufacturing shop environment.
  • Perform root cause analysis of welding defects and provide corrective actions and solutions.

Qualifications & Required Skills:

  • Ability to communicate clearly to peers, management, customers, and vendors. Robust written and verbal communication capabilities are both a must.
  • Knowledge of industry welding standards (e.g., AWS, ASME) with preference for Naval welding standards
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with ANSI drawing standards and geometric tolerancing
  • Applied attention to detail in order to review work of peers such as checking drawings, customer contract reviews, technical proposals, etc.
  • Ability to self-manage work in an environment of numerous competing tasks, including wherewithal to ask for help when needed.
  • Familiarity with Non-Destructive testing (NDT) and other manufacturing and inspection aspects are preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • 1-5 Years (5+ preferred) in a Manufacturing/Engineering Environment.
  • Familiarity with welding of frequently used materials for Naval applications, such as CuNi, Monel, Stainless Steel, Nickel-Aluminum and other Bronzes etc.
  • Practical experience with GTAW, GTAW-HW, GMAW-P & PAW welding processes.
  • Robotic operation and programming (preferred).
  • Welding automation development and operation (preferred).

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or related Engineering field from an accredited institution. Preference given to candidates with a Weld engineering degree or demonstrated welding focus of study.
