Job description

Welding Engineer


We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starting Welding Engineer with experience in industrial or nuclear construction environments. This position will support welding operations, fabrication quality, and compliance with nuclear codes and standards at our project located in Aiken, SC.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in welding processes, quality assurance, and inspection requirements, along with the ability to lead field execution and collaborate with project teams to ensure safe and compliant operations.

Welding Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve welding procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain WPS, PQR, and WPQ documentation.
  • Oversee and support field welding operations to ensure compliance with approved procedures and quality standards.
  • Coordinate inspections, NDE activities, and welding-related testing to verify weld integrity.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and support to welders and technicians.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and quality teams to ensure fabrication quality and project schedule adherence.
  • Support nuclear quality program requirements, audits, surveillance activities, and regulatory inspections.
  • Assist with failure analysis, corrective actions, and preparation of required reports and documentation.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of welding engineering experience in industrial, heavy civil, power, or nuclear construction environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of welding processes including MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), SMAW, FCAW, and gas cutting.
  • In-depth knowledge of ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and applicable fabrication standards. NQA-1 knowledge is preferred but not required.
  • Nuclear quality program experience is strongly preferred.
  • Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) or other AWS certifications preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.


Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must participate in pre-employment and random drug screening program.
  • Subject to background screening process.
  • Ability to work in field construction environments.
