Job description

Electrician

Under general directive supervision, performs work requiring testing, trouble-shooting, inspection, repair, maintenance, installation, construction and job layout work on electrical equipment, circuits and apparatus which may be energized in all work areas involving Maintenance Services activities in accordance with local and state codes, standards practices, procedures, safety rules and regulations. Performs skilled maintenance work and operates necessary equipment in the operation and maintenance of the building and grounds; performs such duties as:

  • Diagnosing and locating faults and causes of trouble; making repairs, replacements and adjustments in accordance with the Company and manufacturers standards and specifications;
  • Installing, testing, inspecting and repairing electrical equipment;
  • Inspecting, maintaining, repairing and replacement of motors;
  • Overhauling, replacing parts and reassembling electrical hand tools;
  • Repairing and maintaining welding equipment;
  • Checking and maintaining building circuits; locating and repairing electrical troubles such as grounds and shorts; installing or replacing lighting and power wiring and replacing lighting fixtures;
  • Bending and installing conduits, including fitting, pull boxes and outlet boxes;
  • Arranging for the clearance and removal from service of equipment; circuits for electrical inspection and maintenance work; tagging and removing tags from switches, wires, cables, etc. for this work; installing and removing grounds and taking all necessary safety precautions;
  • Troubleshooting, repairing and testing DBAB and Simulator Building Fire Protection System Equipment, (i.e. data gathering panels, detectors, sirens, alarms, Halon Equipment etc.);
  • Performing duties relative to the Preventive Maintenance Program;
  • Ensuring the work area and equipment are in good order and cleaned after completion of work;
  • Operating all assigned equipment in a responsible, safe manner;
  • Instructing and training employees in the work;
  • Being responsible for the preparation of records in connection with the work;
  • Assisting in reporting errors, and making suggestions for improvements of Station procedures and tests;
  • Inspecting, maintaining and testing low voltage circuit breakers;
  • Inspection, maintaining and testing batteries, inverters, chargers and voltage regulators, generators and motor control centers;
  • Reporting abnormal conditions observed or encountered such as: abnormal operating conditions, safety conditions and violations of security procedures;
  • Following safe work practices and adhering to all Station and Company procedures;
  • Performing similar or less skilled duties, as assigned; and
  • Working with employees in higher classifications and performing other duties in accordance with the Section of the Forward to the Job Manual entitled "Duties".

Qualifications

Must meet the Company's requirements as to General Qualifications, and in addition:

  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years field experience in Building and Office Electrical Systems and/or possess and maintain a valid Journeyman Electrician License of Registration;
  • Must successfully complete NEC code class, and Electrical Safety for Industrial Facilities class; must be Bucket Truck qualified and Self Propelled Manlift qualified;
  • Must satisfactorily progress in and complete the prescribed training courses required by the Company or any regulatory agencies;
  • Must have the ability to receive, interpret and pass on orders and instructions in a manner that will maintain harmony and safety; obtain cooperation and satisfactory work results from men/women assigned to the work; and
  • Must have successfully completed/complete Edison Electric Institute (EEI) MASS testing.
