What is a notary?

Notaries, also known as notary publics, are official witnesses appointed by the state to verify the identity of signers and oversee the signing of important documents. Their primary role is to prevent fraud by ensuring that all parties involved in a transaction are who they claim to be and are signing documents willingly. Notaries are commonly used for legal documents such as affidavits, real estate deeds, powers of attorney, and contracts. They also administer oaths and affirmations. The specific duties and requirements for notaries can vary by state or country.

How much do notaries get paid?

Notaries typically earn between $10 and $20 per notarization, but their overall income depends on the number of signings they perform and the state or country regulations. Many notaries work part-time or as independent contractors, and some may charge additional fees for services like mobile notarizations or after-hours appointments.

Is being a notary a good side hustle?

Notary work can be a viable side hustle as it typically requires minimal startup costs and flexible hours. Notaries earn fees for each notarization, and additional certifications or background checks may enhance earning potential, making it suitable for those seeking part-time income.

Excellent communication, integrity, and organizational skills help build client trust and ensure accurate execution of duties. Balancing travel time, document preparation, and client communication requires strong organizational skills. Additionally, staying up-to-date with state laws and maintaining meticulous records are essential to avoid errors and legal issues.
