Purpose: The Infection Control Manager implements and leads the infection prevention and control program by providing education, data generation, and analysis of key quality indicators. This role also serves as the healthcare quality and patient safety subject matter expert and resource by supporting a data driven, performance improvement effort aimed to support quality, performance improvement and patient safety initiatives to achieve top decile performance for quality indicators. Population served based on scope of services in the department.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Applies epidemiological principles and statistical methods relevant to Infection Control.
  • Uses basic principles of general, clinical and environment microbiology in the prevention and control of infection among patients, associates and visitors within the health care facility.
  • Incorporates teaching and learning principles necessary for developing, implementing and evaluating the coordination of education in an effective Infection Control Program.
  • Illustrates knowledge in the ability to serve as a liaison and consultant to other departments on infection prevention and control, as well as other related issues.
  • Coordinates and conducts ongoing surveillance activities for the purpose of collecting, analyzing and evaluating data to identify hospital acquired infections, reportable diseases, clusters/outbreaks and other Infection Control issues related to patient care and employee health. Develops and implements plan of action for clusters/outbreaks/infections. Ongoing infection prevention proactive risk assessment and plans recommendations for risk prevention. Reports appropriately to hospital/system leadership as well as regulatory agencies as required.
  • Gathers, reviews and analyzes data for entry into required databases including, Midas, CDC (NHSN), Quality net, local and state Department of Health.
  • Assists with the evaluation, development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Ensures and supports all accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements, and participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of plans of correction.
  • Facilitates the development, implementation and assessment of performance improvement strategies by utilizing methodology for improvement (PDSA) and lean and Six Sigma Methodologies.
  • Supports quality and patient safety by participating in audits, chart reviews and data collection as required.
  • Maintain and Model REACH Values ( Respect , Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor ).
  • Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in Acute Care nursing.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
  • MS Excel, MS Word, Power Point, Presentation skills.

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:
  • NYS Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control within 3 years of hire.
