About the Position
This is a part-time position. Performs semiskilled work maintaining parks, playing fields, equipment, and facilities, performing general custodial, maintenance and groundskeeping duties, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Park Maintenance Crew Leader.
Job Duties
  • Mows grass in parks and public properties; edges, trims and cleans public areas; applies pesticide as needed.
  • Sets up ball fields including application of clay, edging, lining, and grass cutting; ensures ball fields conform to specifications and are edged and kept in excellent playing condition.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and makes minor repairs to equipment.
  • Performs basic trades tasks such as general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.
  • Performs custodial duties such as mopping and cleaning.
  • Sets up and takes down furniture and equipment for special events.
  • Performs other assigned duties.

Position Qualifications
  • General knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in ground maintenance work.
  • General knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of the standard building trades.
  • Some knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the class.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to operate mowers, tractors and related machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, and others.

Education, Experience and Supplemental Information
  • High school diploma or equivalent or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Valid driver's license.
