Job description

The Berlin Steel Construction Company is a full-service specialty contractor, primarily with structural steel and miscellaneous metals. We design, fabricate, and erect structures in the Northeast and in other parts of the country. We have 2 fabrication facilities, 4 erection operations facilities, and 6 office locations that provide engineering and management of projects. We are a 100% employee‑owned company (ESOP) with a desire for growth. We service the private commercial, public, institutional, and industrial markets.

We are currently seeking an experienced Structural Steel Shop Foreman to join our structural fabrication shop, FEI, LTD, in Natural Bridge Station, VA. This role is responsible for overseeing daily fabrication operations and ensuring a safe, efficient, and high‑quality workflow. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with strong technical knowledge and a commitment to safety and production excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily shop operations, including material receiving, storage, and workflow coordination
  • Assign and delegate work to shop personnel, ensuring proper training and competency
  • Monitor material flow to align with fabrication schedules and minimize downtimeEnsure parts, materials, and equipment are available and ready for production
  • Maintain shop equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Conduct new hire orientations focused on safety and job responsibilities
  • Lead shop operations in the absence of the Plant Manager, including:
    • Reviewing drawings and new jobs
    • Facilitating weekly toolbox safety meetings
    • Coordinating with internal teams (Production Control, PMs, Purchasing, Payroll, etc.)
  • Perform quality control checks in accordance with company standards
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, and physical activity
  • Must always wear appropriate PPE
  • High attention to safety to prevent injury to self and others
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a structural steel fabrication shop
  • At least 1 year in a leadership or lead role
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Solid math and technical skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize workflow and meet deadlines
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team‑building skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and production logs
