Job description

Job Description:

We're KSM, one of the top 50 largest independent advisory, tax, and audit firms in the United States. But more than our size, it's our people and culture that set us apart. We believe great things happen when people are supported, challenged, and given the freedom to do their very best work. That's why we've built a workplace where your career and personal life can thrive together - where you have the flexibility to manage your time, the resources to grow, and a team that genuinely cares about your success.

We've been employee-owned since 2001, giving every team member a stake in our collective success. This ownership mentality fosters a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and excellence - where new ideas are welcomed, different perspectives are valued, and you're encouraged to explore what excites you most. Whether you're expanding your skills, tackling new challenges, or making an impact beyond the office, we provide the resources and support to help you grow in the direction that's right for you.

At KSM, your contributions matter - not just to the firm, but to your colleagues, clients, and the communities we serve across the U.S. If you're looking for a place where you can do meaningful work, build lasting relationships, and grow in ways that align with what's most important to you, we'd love to meet you.

Position Summary:

KSM is looking for an experienced Audit Manager to join our not-for-profit audit practice. In this role, you'll lead a variety of engagements ranging in complexity - including single audits under Uniform Guidance - from planning through delivery, serve as a trusted client contact, and play a meaningful role in developing the next generation of KSM talent. If you thrive in a collaborative, quality-driven environment and have deep experience in the not-for-profit sector, we'd love to connect.

Work Location: This role is eligible for in-office or hybrid within the greater Indianapolis area. The individual will be expected to be onsite during the majority of engagement, primarily in the Indianapolis area, with some potential regional travel.

Responsibilities:

Client Service & Technical Execution

  • Manage multiple audit engagements concurrently across not-for-profit clients, ensuring high-quality, timely results
  • Serve as the primary client contact for technical questions, planning, and engagement updates
  • Plan and execute single audits in compliance with 2 CFR Part 200 (Uniform Guidance), including risk assessment, major program determination, and compliance testing, including assistance in reporting of findings, as applicable
  • Review workpapers and financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP, FASB ASC 958 (NFP Reporting Standards), and applicable auditing standards
  • Assist in the preparation of complex not-for-profit financial statements, including those with multi-entity consolidation, significant endowment, grant, or federal award activity
  • Stay current on developments in not-for-profit accounting and state and federal compliance requirements, including AICPA guidance, Indiana SBOA requirements, and OMB updates

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and delegate to audit teams with clarity; review work for technical and professional quality
  • Coach and develop Associates and Senior Associates through formal and informal opportunities, identifying growth areas and providing actionable feedback
  • Own performance management for direct reports, including 1-on-1s, goal setting, and evaluation processes
  • Serve as an intern coordinator, as needed

Workflow & Collaboration

  • Monitor engagement budgets, timelines, and capacity; proactively address issues and keep engagement partners informed
  • Collaborate with KSM's NFP Tax and Advisory teams to support integrated service delivery for not-for-profit clients
  • Partner with the resource management team on engagement scheduling
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with clients and internal stakeholders via Outlook, Teams, and other platforms
  • Travel to client sites as needed

Business Development

  • Identify opportunities for expanded service delivery across the not-for-profit client base
  • Build and nurture referral relationships within the not-for-profit community, primarily through high quality delivery of services to the existing client base

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business; CPA license in good standing required
  • 5+ years of public accounting experience, with significant and demonstrated experience leading not-for-profit audit engagements
  • Required: Hands-on experience planning and executing single audits under Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), including major program determination, compliance testing, and SEFA preparation
  • Strong working knowledge of FASB ASC 958 and not-for-profit financial reporting
  • Proven ability to lead audit teams and develop staff at multiple levels
  • Excellent communication, project management, and client relationship skills
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, including 40 hours of annual CPE
