Job description

Boston University invites applications for two full-time faculty positions at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in the School of Law.
Boston University School of Law is seeking candidates to join the Lawyering Program for the 2027 – 2028 academic year. The Lawyering Program provides intensive instruction in legal research, writing, and analysis; introduces students to other critical lawyering skills like client interviewing and oral advocacy; and engages students in an in-depth transactional simulation. Each Lecturer teaches two sections of approximately fifteen to twenty students, providing classroom instruction and individualized feedback on writing assignments, including conferencing with students on major assignments. Each section of the course is also supported by a research librarian and three 2L or 3L Lawyering Fellows. Additional responsibilities include attending program and faculty meetings, judging 1L moot court arguments, and performing faculty service to BU Law as assigned. The Lawyering Program’s collaborative environment will allow the Lecturer to draw upon the Program’s carefully designed assignments and exercises, while maintaining substantial curricular latitude, including in selecting most assignments.
Lecturers will receive an initial four-year contract beginning on July 1, 2027. This appointment includes voting rights on all academic matters and on appointments for positions at the lecturer’s rank or below. The position may lead to successive long-term contracts, including potential eligibility for a presumptively renewable contract.
Since its founding in 1839, Boston University has embraced a mission of openness and access, becoming one of the first universities in the nation to welcome all students of ability regardless of race, gender, or creed. That tradition shapes our enduring commitment to academic freedom, free inquiry, and the robust exchange of ideas. Please visit https://www.bu.edu/values/ to learn more about our shared values.
We seek scholars who will contribute to our community of teachers and researchers through excellence in innovative scholarship, engaged teaching, and participation in the intellectual life of the University. Boston University provides an environment where faculty and students work together across disciplines, perspectives, and experiences to advance knowledge and address society’s most pressing challenges.

Judicial clerkships also count as prior legal practice. Experienced legal writing teachers as well as those seeking to enter the profession are encouraged to apply. Salary and rank commensurate with experience.

Application Instructions:

Applicants should send a letter of interest and a C.V. as soon as they are able to the Faculty Appointments Committee at lawappts@bu.edu. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender, age, national origin, ethnicity, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law or identified in the University’s Notice of Non-Discrimination.
