Job description

Job Title: Logistics Coordinator

Department: Production Control

Reports To: Production Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: The Logistics Coordinator is an integral part of the Production Operations team and is responsible for coordinating domestic and international shipping, receiving, carrier communication, shipment tracking, and related logistics documentation. This position supports timely and accurate movement of products and materials while working closely with carriers, customers, vendors, and internal personnel to resolve day-to-day transportation and logistics issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinate domestic and international shipments to support customer delivery requirements and production schedules.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate shipping, receiving, customs, export, and carrier documentation.
  • Communicate with carriers, freight forwarders, brokers, customers, vendors, and internal departments to coordinate pickups, deliveries, shipment status, and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with Sales and Finance to ensure accurate shipping documentation, customer requirements, freight billing, sales order terms, and shipment-related communication.
  • Track shipments, obtain proof of delivery when required, and provide timely updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support import and export compliance processes by ensuring required shipping information, classifications, and documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Create and maintain accurate logistics and inventory records within the ERP system, including requisitions, purchase orders, bills of lading, certifications, and related documentation.
  • Research shipment delays, carrier non-conformances, freight claims, and delivery issues, and coordinate corrective actions as needed.
  • Participate in production meetings and communicate logistics constraints, shipment priorities, and potential risks to the Production Manager and operations team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve shipping, receiving, documentation, and carrier coordination processes.
  • Support special projects within the shipping, receiving, and production operations areas as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in supply chain management, logistics, business, operations, or equivalent combination of education and related experience preferred.
  • Minimum of one to three years of hands-on logistics, shipping, receiving, or transportation coordination experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with customs, export documentation, freight forwarders, brokers, and international shipping requirements preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a unionized environment is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of logistics, inventory, distribution, and carrier coordination processes.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with carriers, customers, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task while consistently attentive to detail.
  • Dependable and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple shipments, tasks, and deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to learn quickly, solve day-to-day problems, and find resolution through ambiguity.
  • Trustworthy with confidential information and matters; demonstrates excellent moral and ethical standards.
  • Working knowledge of logistics and inventory software; experience with Epicor is a plus.
