Are you passionate about public safety? Sampson County is seeking dedicated professionals to join our Emergency Services team as Telecommunicators. As a telecommunicator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of Sampson County residents by responding to 911 calls requesting emergency assistance. Your work will have a real and lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.

What you'll do:

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency requests for service and various tasks for law enforcement, fire, EMS, and partnering agencies
  • Provide guidance and assistant to the public in emergency situations
  • Assist in dispatching law enforcement, fire, emergency medical service personnel and equipment
  • Effectively operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) equipment to effectively communicate with response personnel
  • Utilize the International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD), and Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) to protocol process and prioritize calls for service
  • Accurately maintain communication logs, law enforcement activity logs, and call reports
  • Enter/Modify/Clear National Crime Information Center (NCIC) files for law enforcement agencies such as Wanted Persons, Missing Persons, Stolen Vehicles, etc.
  • Other related duties as required
  • NOTE: Rotating 12-hour shifts, nights, holidays, and weekend work is required.

Minimum Requirements:

A valid driver's license for the State of North Carolina is required of all applicants.

Preferred applicants will have relevant training beyond a high school diploma with experience in communication dispatch work that provides the necessary skills required to serve effectively as a Telecommunicator. A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.

Special Requirements:

Upon employment, telecommunicators must be able to obtain the following certifications:

  • DCI Operator Certification issued by the State of North Carolina (90 days)
  • Basic Telecommunicator Certificate from the NC Sheriff's Training & Standards Commission (one year)

Additional certifications required upon employment include:

  • CPR certification
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD), Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD)
  • Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Modules 1-3
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700 & 800.
