Job description

Job Purpose

  • Design, build, repair, and maintain patterns, tooling, fixtures, and related equipment used in the manufacturing and casting process.
  • Support production by ensuring patterns and tooling meet quality, dimensional, and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve tooling performance, efficiency, and product quality.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Construct, modify, repair, and maintain production patterns and core boxes.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain tooling and pattern-making equipment.
  • Perform dimensional inspections and verify tooling accuracy.
  • Support additive manufacturing and 3D printing operations as required.
  • Troubleshoot tooling, pattern, and production issues to minimize downtime.
  • Assist with new product development, prototype tooling, and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of tooling revisions, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to all safety, quality, and housekeeping requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production personnel to meet operational goals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in patternmaking, toolmaking, moldmaking, machining, or related manufacturing field.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD-generated prints.
  • Proficiency with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Patternmaker certification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in foundry, casting, additive manufacturing, or 3D printing environments.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and digital manufacturing processes.
  • CNC machining experience.
  • Welding, fabrication, or machine repair experience.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with continuous improvement and problem-solving methodologies.

What we offer you:

The hourly pay for this position is governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The current starting rate for this role is $40.80 per hour, with progression through the established wage scale based on tenure and contractual increases outlined in the agreement. All compensation is administered in accordance with the terms of the union contract.

This non-exempt role is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with the CBA and applicable federal and state laws.
