Job description

Tectonic’s Corporate Office in Orange County, NY is actively seeking an experienced Instrument Person to join our team full-time. This role will involve working on a variety of exciting projects throughout the NY and NYC Metro areas. We provide sponsorship to help successful candidates gain entry into the applicable union.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of this position include the setup, maintenance, and operation of all field survey equipment, the operation of survey instruments in the field including total stations, levels, data collectors, GPS, and other standard survey equipment. They will also prepare survey sites and remove all obstacles, including debris, brush, tree limbs, etc. Essential functions also include maintaining neat and accurate field records and survey notes, assisting the Crew Chief in field day to day operations, maintaining field vehicles and supplies, uploading and downloading data collection information and photographs, and all other duties as assigned. Please note that overnight travel may be required for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 2 years land surveying experience, with the ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of surveying equipment;
  • Must be detail oriented, with the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations;
  • Must be available to work overtime as needed, and be available for travel for overnight assignments;
  • Must possess a HS Diploma or equivalent; AAS in Surveying a plus;
  • Must have or be able to obtain required OSHA training within a reasonable period of time;
  • Must possess a valid, clean, driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of these positions, the employee is constantly required to assume a stationary position for prolonged periods of time, and handle inspect, and/or feel documents, materials, and/or equipment relevant to the job and communicate about same. The employee will also need to process manual and computer generated reports, and will be required to communicate using the Corporate e-mail and telephone systems. The employee is frequently required to move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending the landscape, and positioning themselves appropriately to access necessary materials and equipment; they are sometimes required to do so in hazardous conditions, such as in woods, water, snow, etc.. The employee must frequently lift and/or move equipment up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move equipment up to 75 lbs.. This position involves regularly operating a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time. In accordance with the level of visual detail required for this position, close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are required for this position in order to detect non-conformities. Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of these positions. COMPENSATION

Our advertised pay ranges are representative of our good faith effort to provide a reasonable anticipated salary range. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidate’s work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities compared to the advertised position. The pay range and benefits package offered for this position are based upon a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Pay Range: $37.60 / hour
