Job description

Mechanical Project Manager

Creature is a vertically integrated design-build firm based in Birmingham, AL. Our focus is on developing a differentiated delivery platform that improves the lives of our employees and customers. We specialize in the delivery of facilities utilizing the Design, Manufacture, Construct (DMC) methodology — a framework that replaces the century-old, siloed approach of the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. A major component of our platform is our in-house Mechanical, Plumbing, and Carpentry trades.

Job Description

Creature is seeking a Mechanical Project Manager to lead and manage our mechanical team. This individual must operate with a high level of ownership, be a sharp communicator and problem-solver, and lead projects with excellence from start to finish. You will have ownership of the mechanical value stream, working alongside our mechanical staff. Strong vision and leadership are non-negotiable. This person will be responsible and accountable for delivering HVAC and related systems for our medical and commercial clients — on schedule and within budget. This role is based in Birmingham, AL.

You must be a thoughtful doer who can seamlessly transition from being in the trenches to creating smart systems that continuously improve the mechanical function at Creature.

Role Expectations

• Support the HVAC and Plumbing Field Leaders.
• Travel up to 25% of the time (~1 week per month).
• Bring experience and deep knowledge in mechanical construction.
• Become a hands-on expert in Creature's operational model.
• Own short- and medium-term labor planning.
• Work proficiently with MS Excel, Smartsheet, and Procore.
• Perform material and labor takeoffs.
• Collaborate with the Creature PM team to smooth labor loading for Mechanical and Plumbing self-perform teams across projects.
• Recruit and standardize training for new field talent.
• Own the P&L for Mechanical/Plumbing work.
• Think and act strategically — rigorous, disciplined, and willing to challenge convention.
• Communicate complexity clearly, both verbally and in writing.
• Thrive working with a team of smart, entrepreneurial contrarians in a transparent, open-office environment.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of Project Management experience in the mechanical contracting industry.
• BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university (preferred).
• Based in Birmingham, AL.
