Job description

Responsibilities:
  • Establish IP best practices and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Coordinate with outside counsel; oversee billing and IP-related matters.
  • Lead/support high-impact efforts (due diligence, IP acquisitions, integrations).
  • Draft, revise, and file patent documents (applications, amendments, responses).
  • Own internal/external IP processes; maintain filing through electronic systems.
  • Monitor IP systems to meet prosecution and renewal deadlines.
  • Conduct preliminary patent research; summarize findings.
  • Coordinate timely submission of documents with corporate counsel and IP team.
  • Prepare/transmit legal correspondence, reports, and filings.
  • Maintain electronic and hard copy records; draft pleadings and routine motions/notices.
  • Handle docketing for case deadlines; conduct factual and legal research.
  • Provide litigation support (subpoenas, document requests, RFIs).
  • Adhere to SOPs, improve processes, and standardize templates; complete ad-hoc cross-functional projects.
Qualifications:
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree + 8+ years IP paralegal experience; or High school diploma/equivalent + 12+ years IP paralegal experience.
  • Required: Paralegal certification; specialized IP paralegal experience.
  • Required: Patent-based tools (LexisNexis, Anaqua, Legal Tracker, Derwent) and IP analytics experience.
  • Required: Experience working with outside counsel managing domestic and foreign patent prosecutions.
  • Preferred: Law firm and in-house life sciences experience.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of patents/trademarks/copyrights/trade secrets; US and international patent prosecution.
  • IP project management, prioritization/multitasking, proofreading, confidentiality, strong written/oral communication.
