Title: Driver/Cook

Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Site Director


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Driver/Cook is responsible for transporting Project LIFT participants from school, home or to Project LIFT facilities and transporting them home. This position is responsible for the ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the children and staff during transportation to and from the facility. The Driver/Cook is also responsible for preparing meals (lunch and dinner) on specified days according to specified schedule. (Currently Monday thru Thursday 9am-7pm)

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides and performs program delivery functions including the following;

Driver:

  • Drives Project LIFT company vehicle; Picks up participants at school or home and transports to Project LIFT facility and returns participant(s) home at the end of the Project LIFT program day.
  • Observes safety regulations and state laws regarding vehicle operation; ensures participants also follow applicable safety regulations.
  • Adheres to posted speed limits (i.e. school zones, pedestrian cross walks, emergency vehicles).
  • Reports vehicle problems to Project LIFT auto mechanic instructor.
  • Enforces rules of behavior for Project LIFT participants; report any concerns to Site Director.
  • Follow safety rule as participants are boarding and exiting vehicle.
  • Keep vehicles clean for participants.

Cook:

  • Prepare weekly or monthly menu for specific days.
  • Follows proper food preparation techniques and standards at all times.
  • Follows Department of Health standards and guidelines for the cooking, holding, storage, and reheating of all products.
  • Pick up donated food from the food pantry and or grocery store(s) weekly or as donated.
  • Maintains proper supply and orderliness of kitchen inventory of food deliveries and meals to avoid food waste by food expiring.
  • Rotate and store food by “used by” date to ensure food is being used prior to expiration.
  • Cover, date and time stamp, and neatly stores all leftover products that are reusable in the refrigerator.
  • Prepares meals (lunch or dinner) for Project LIFT participants; ensuring enough food is prepared based on the number of people to be served and that the food is prepared in a timely manner as scheduled.
  • Maintain overall sanitation, health, cleanliness, and safety standards for food preparations areas, cooking services, dishes and utensils, dining room tables.
  • Work efficiently and effectively without supervision.
  • Maintains neat professional appearance and observes personal cleanliness rules at all times.
  • Order and pick up groceries weekly or monthly with budget in mind.

Other:

  • Mentor participants in the culinary field as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Excellent driving skills.
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality.
  • Able to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Uphold professional standards and represent mission and values of Project LIFT in public.
  • Obtain Food Handler’s Certification and keep up to date.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand and walk. The noise level in the work environment varies. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. In addition, the employee must be able to lift up to a minimum of 25lbs, able to work in non-air-conditioned environment and to stand on feet for extended periods of time.
