POSITION DESCRIPTION
NexGen Manufacturing
Job Title: Laser Operator
Department: Laser
Status: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Supervisor: Laser Team Lead
Manages Others: No
SUMMARY:
The Laser Operator is responsible for the daily set-up and operation of one or more laser machines. Individual(s) will also assist other laser pull team members with any of their daily duties including housekeeping, maintenance work, and material staging. Possess or have the ability to learn how the equipment is maintained and operated.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform daily machine startup and shut down of laser equipment.
  • Operate fork lifts to complete tasks.
  • Stack raw materials at each work-center for daily production.
  • Load and unload machines.
  • Report equipment deficiencies.
  • Ensure production schedule follows through as allocated by scheduling department.
  • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of cutting equipment and work area in accordance with company standards and manufactures machine recommendations.
  • Perform minor maintenance and optic cleaning to keep equipment at peak operating performance.
  • Facilitate work-order paper flow in accordance with quality standards.
  • Communicate with other departments about their needs or of other pertinent information.
  • Help the Pull department as needed.
  • Other duties assigned by Lead/Supervisor or Management.
  • Maintain low attendance points (less than four points)
  • Other miscellaneous tasks.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE:
  • Experience in Bystronic laser technology and equipment highly preferred.
  • High School Diploma preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of programs for Bystronic laser technology.
  • Ability to work with others and dependently to complete tasks.
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Ability to provide upkeep and maintain the machinery.
  • Ability to learn or have some working knowledge of NC machine code.
  • Ability to work well as a team member.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Minimum level of drawing and reading comprehension skills.
  • Ability to inspect flat laser cut parts with precision inspection equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read drawings
  • Possess some knowledge of and ability to identify fabrication industry metals.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal flat patterns preferred.
  • Understand and support Company policies and procedures.
  • Safety conscious behavior.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 1-50 lbs. frequently.
  • Squat/kneel, bend/stoop, crawl, twist/turn, grasp and reach overhead and outward frequently.
  • Regular stand or walk for an extended period.
  • Work in fast-paced industrial environment wearing hearing protection, vision, protection, steel-toed shoes, and other appropriate protective clothing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Normal work hours with occasional optional as well as mandatory overtime necessary to meet deadlines
  • Normal office and manufacturing plant environment which may include exposure to dust, industrial solvents, liquids and other materials.
  • The working environment will extend to both hot and cold conditions
