Description Keep Greensboro Moving - Make a Difference on the Road as a Civilian Traffic Investigator The City of Greensboro Police Department is seeking a dependable, service-minded professional to join the Greensboro Motorist Assistance Patrol (GMAP) as a Civilian Traffic Investigator. This unique public safety role combines customer service, traffic safety, roadside assistance, and crash investigation to help keep Greensboro's motorists safe and our roadways moving. The Greensboro Motorist Assistance Patrol (GMAP) supports the department's traffic safety mission by providing essential non-emergency services that assist motorists, address roadway incidents, and improve traffic flow throughout Greensboro. Work alongside professionals: Collaborate with police officers, Traffic Safety personnel, emergency responders, and other City partners.

About the Role: As a Civilian Traffic Investigator, you will provide non-emergency services that are essential to motorist safety and effective traffic operations throughout Greensboro. The position combines fieldwork, public interaction, traffic management, and documentation responsibilities. Key responsibilities include: Responding to traffic crashes, disabled vehicles, roadway hazards, and other motorist assistance requests.

Assisting stranded motorists with services such as changing tires, providing limited fuel, and helping remove roadway hazards. Directing traffic and supporting safe movement through congested or impacted areas. Investigating non-injury vehicle crashes as permitted under North Carolina law.

Completing required State and City documentation, including NCDMV Form 349. Monitoring police radio dispatch and responding to calls throughout the City. Coordinating vehicle towing when necessary.

Supporting the Traffic Safety Unit during special events, license and DWI checkpoints, traffic enforcement initiatives, and planned road closures. Transporting and deploying traffic control equipment to support roadway operations. Assisting with emergency traffic signal support, including transporting, setting up, and refueling generators.

Using a Body-Worn Camera during citizen interactions in accordance with departmental policy. This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The selected candidate must complete the North Carolina Justice Academy Civilian Traffic Investigator training and a minimum of 160 hours of field training.
