What is a non certified RBT supervisor?

A Non Certified RBT Supervisor is an individual who oversees Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) but does not hold RBT certification themselves. Typically, this role is filled by someone with a higher-level certification in behavior analysis, such as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA), who meets the supervisor requirements set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). The supervisor is responsible for guiding, training, and evaluating the RBTs to ensure they deliver effective, ethical behavioral interventions. Although they are not RBTs, their credentials allow them to provide the necessary oversight and support for those in the RBT role.

How does a non certified RBT supervisor typically collaborate with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs)?

A Non Certified RBT Supervisor often works closely with BCBAs to implement behavior intervention plans and ensure RBTs are following protocols correctly. While they are not board-certified themselves, they may assist with training, provide direct feedback, and help monitor RBT performance under the guidance and supervision of a BCBA. Collaboration often involves regular team meetings, sharing observations, and troubleshooting challenges to maintain quality client care. This team-oriented approach helps create a supportive environment for growth and ensures consistent service delivery.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a non certified RBT supervisor, and why are they important?

To excel as a Non Certified RBT Supervisor, you need a strong background in applied behavior analysis (ABA), experience in supervising behavioral therapists, and a relevant educational foundation, though formal RBT certification is not held. Familiarity with ABA data collection software, session documentation systems, and behavior intervention plan implementation is typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help ensure effective team guidance and client progress. These abilities are crucial for maintaining high standards of care and supporting both staff development and positive client outcomes in behavioral health settings.

Job description

Alpaca Health
Work Location: In Person
If you want work that challenges you, changes lives, and builds a real career, this is it. For many of our roles you don't need your RBT certification to apply. What matters most is that you love working with kids, you're dependable, and you're ready to show up. Some roles do require an active certification, but if you're not certified yet, we'll help you find your path to getting there.
Alpaca Health is a multi-state network of independent ABA therapists, working in homes, schools, and daycares. We hire certified RBTs and motivated people ready to become one. Either way, you'll work alongside a dedicated BCBA who mentors you from day one, not a manager, not a corporate supervisor.
Two ways to join
Already an RBT
  • Active RBT certification
  • Start working and earning right away
  • Work with clients in your region
  • A path toward BCBA if you want it

Not certified yet
  • A clear path to becoming an RBT, with a BCBA mentor from day one
  • Many practices in our network reimburse RBT training and pay you during hands-on learning, and we'll help match you with the right fit
  • Support as you prepare for and sit for your certification exam

The job
You'll work one-on-one with kids with autism in their homes, classrooms, and communities. Every day is different. You'll follow a personalized plan from your BCBA, implement behavior strategies, collect data, and build the consistent relationships that help kids grow. Your BCBA is closely involved and reachable, so there's no guessing and no flying solo.
What's in it for you:
  • $20-$27/hour, based on experience and location
  • Direct mentorship from a dedicated BCBA, not managers or a corporate chain of command
  • Full-time or part-time (some flexibility across mornings, afternoons, and evenings is needed to meet client needs; not sure if a schedule fits? Just ask, we have many)
  • Career growth support, including a path toward BCBA certification
  • Depending on the practice: training reimbursement and paid hands-on learning for those earning their certification

You're a good fit if you:
  • Genuinely enjoy working with children, especially kids who need extra patience and creativity
  • Have an active RBT certification, or the drive to earn one
  • Have reliable availability across mornings, afternoons, or evenings, since our clients count on consistency
  • Come from education, childcare, psychology, social work, or any role where you showed up for kids
  • Have reliable transportation to reach client homes and schools
  • Can keep up physically, getting on the floor, moving around, staying active (able to lift ~50 lbs)
  • Are at least 18, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and can pass a background check

Why Alpaca Health
We're not a big clinic chain. We're a network of independent therapists who chose this work because they believe in it, and we match every RBT with a BCBA who mentors, not manages. We match families with providers who have availability now, and we work where families actually are. If you want a career where you see the results of your work every single day, this is it.
