Job description

Armed Security Officer

LOOKING FOR PRIOR LAW ENFORCEMENT, MILITARY, OR SECURITY EXPERIENCE!!!

SCOPE: Armed Security Officers are responsible for protecting the site’s building, grounds, assets, employees, and visitors against criminal activity, accidents, fires and natural disasters, as well as providing outstanding customer service. Officers at this site location will work to protect the facility and employees of a local pharmaceutical company. This is your opportunity to work on a team that serves a truly critical purpose!

SCHEDULE: Friday, Saturday 11PM-7AM, Sunday 3PM-11PM

COMPENSATION:

  • Rate of Pay: $21.63/hr, $24.04 after 90 day review

LOCATION: Downtown Grand Rapids, MI

JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must provide excellent customer service when dealing with Clients, Customers, Co-Workers, etc.
  • Observes and reports activities and incidents at assigned client location.
  • Guard posts – this may include building lobbies, reception areas, control centers, etc.
  • Conduct periodic foot patrols of the assigned locations to check for irregularities, unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked entrances/exits, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons.
  • Check for employee and vendor identifications. Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for all employees and visitors, and will enforce policies and procedures for the site location.
  • Look for suspicious persons, packages and activities.
  • Responds to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents.
  • Maintain regular communication with the designated client contact, follow through with client requests and keep operations manager updated as to client communication.
  • Must follow and enforce site-specific post guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have at least a high school diploma or equivalent education certification, such as a GED, per MCL 338.1067 §17(2). (Must also be at least 21 years old and be a Michigan CPL or LEOSA cardholder to perform armed security work).
  • Must not have been convicted of any felonies, per MCL 338.1060 §10(1)(c).
  • Must not have been convicted of any misdemeanors related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances (including for marijuana), or two or more alcohol related offenses, per MCL 338.1060 §10(1)(c).
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening at the time of hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
  • Must adhere to our company’s Uniform and Appearance policy and present a friendly, positive, and professional image.
  • Must possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to de-escalate situations in a non-confrontational manner. This includes the ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • If driving company or client vehicles, or if using your own vehicle for work activities, must possess a valid State of Michigan driver’s license and have a clean driving record with less than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years, less than 2 at-fault accidents in the last 3 years, and no other major violations in the last 3 years.
  • Must be willing to become CPR/First Aid/AED certified and be capable of administering this care in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to move quickly, including running short distances, to respond in emergency situations.
  • Must be physically and mentally sound and able to always remain alert while on duty. (Armed security officers must complete a psychological evaluation upon hire.)
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk long distances, including navigating stairs, for the duration of the shift (8-12 hours).
  • Must be able to work indoors or outdoors during all seasons.
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to manipulate keys, tools, and other equipment.
  • Must be able to hear conversations (in person or via 2-way radio) in noisy environments.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. (70 lbs. if working as an armed security officer)
  • Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.
