The role monitors system and application performance, performs advanced troubleshooting of hardware and software issues, and implements patches and configuration changes using disciplined operational procedures.

Operating at a journeyman level, this position owns or coโ€‘owns key NOC infrastructure such as monitoring, logging, and ticketing platforms. The administrator manages access controls, backup and recovery routines, and documentation so that NOC systems remain secure, auditable, and recoverable in a federal IT environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer Windows and Linux servers in production environments, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and ongoing maintenance in support of NOC operations.

  • Monitor and analyze system performance and resource utilization, interpret alerts from monitoring platforms, and proactively address capacity, availability, and stability issues.

  • Implement and maintain patching, backup, and recovery strategies for critical NOC systems, regularly validating restore procedures and documenting results.

  • Troubleshoot complex system problems involving operating systems, virtualization platforms, storage, and core services, coordinating with network and security teams when issues span multiple layers.

  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls across server and application platforms in alignment with security policies and audit requirements.

  • Operate and maintain NOC tool infrastructureโ€”such as monitoring suites, logging platforms, and ticketing systemsโ€”ensuring these tools remain available, updated, and properly integrated.

  • Document system architectures, configuration baselines, changes, and incident resolutions to enable repeatable operations and effective knowledge transfer.

  • Provide tier 2/3 support and guidance to junior administrators and NOC staff on system administration practices and tool usage.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • 4โ€“7 years of experience in system administration or NOC operations roles with responsibility for maintaining enterprise infrastructure in production environments.

  • Strong proficiency with Windows and Linux operating systems, including configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies, system monitoring tools, and backup and recovery solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues and to work effectively under pressure in a 24x7 operational setting.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills for interacting with both technical and nonโ€‘technical stakeholders and recording configurations, changes, and incidents accurately.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance, with U.S. citizenship required.

  • Candidates must be willing to work swing (2P-10:30P ET) or night (10P-6:30A) shifts. Schedule will be either Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs for 24/7 coverage.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Handsโ€‘on experience owning or coโ€‘owning NOC tools such as SIEM, network monitoring, or alerting platforms, including tier 2/3 operational support.

  • Intermediate system, network, or cloud administration certifications (for example, Security+, Azure Administrator, RHCSA, or equivalent).

  • Familiarity with ITIL practices and experience working within formal incident, change, and configuration management frameworks.
