Job description

Job Summary: The Student Surgical Technologist (SST) will work with hospital attendants to help with room turnovers, terminal cleaning, patient transport, running for blood. Shadow in Central Sterile to learn decontamination, scope processing, tray organization, wrapping, sterilization, proper care and handling of sterile items. Learn to pick cases with case picking. An SST will pair up with an experienced Surgical Tech and be in position to 2nd scrub. You may be utilized as a second scrub to hold hearts, retractors, cameras, etc. An SST will learn room setup, how to operate, set up OR patient tables, and equipment. Use experience from central sterile/case picking to check cases prior to opening. Under direct supervision from a surgical tech and RN circulator the SST will open sterile CDS packs, sterile instrument trays, peel pack items. SST will Perform surgical scrub, gown and glove. Students are limited to a maximum 29 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications:

Current Surgical Technology student in an accredited program,

All prerequisites must be completed.

Letter from the Surgical Technology program director stating student is in good standing and a letter of recommendation (healthcare field preferred) CPR/BLS certification
