GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Library Para-Educator provides support to the Library Media Specialist in the selection, cataloguing, inventorying, shelving, and deselection of books as well as the supervision of the Library Learning Commons instructional program; assists students in the selection of appropriate books and resources; supervises day-to-day library operations including circulation of all resources, print, non-print and equipment;ย  assists students and teachers with Makerspace and technology projects; assists with all aspects of device management including circulation, simple troubleshooting, user support for the ready-access digital learning program; and supervises the Library Learning Commons space as needed.ย 
Duties
ย 




  1. Responsible for managing and maintaining the Destiny library management system including book and resource circulation, overdues, report generation, cataloguing and processing new titles.
  2. Prepares all new library materials. Labels, stamps and processes library material and equipment in all formats.
  3. Searches, matches, edits, and attaches item numbers to catalog records to include addition, deletion, and modification of information. Editsย ย new book list reports and maintains library gift book information.ย 
  4. Sets up displays, administers overdue notices, repairs books, assists with the special programs as requested.
  5. Maintains statistical and inventory records and participates in the inventory process, includingย record maintenance.ย ย ย  ย 
  6. Performs and/or assists in the repair of damaged materials.
  7. Assists with Ready-Access digital learning through management of devices, simple troubleshooting, user support, inventory, report generation, organizing repairs, assisting students with printing, and laminating.
  8. With the Library Media Specialist, maintains a welcoming, user-friendly, student-centered physical and online learning environment.
  9. Assists the library media specialist with creating resource lists, bibliographies and collections using the online catalog.
  10. Assists students with locating resources for independent learning or classwork.
  11. Assists teachers and students in supplementing their classroom libraries.
  12. Oversees scheduling of classes, throughout the Learning Commons areas including integrating outside organizations use to minimize instructional disruption and book selection and the open access to the learning commons.
  13. Responsible for handling the booking and distribution of A/V equipment;
  14. Maintains inventory, service records and statistics of use as required. Conducts media inventory; manages media supplies.
  15. Prepares purchase orders and related correspondence. Requisitions, receives, reconciles, and verifies vendor orders for all new library materials, equipment and supplies with LMS oversight.
  16. Operates a variety of video, multimedia and audio equipment - used in the school for producing and presenting information in audio and visual formats; instructs students and teachers in operation of equipment.
  17. Assigns and updates passwords for students as needed.
  18. Assists students in planning in the use of media tools and electronic communication equipment.
  19. Responsible for the maintenance of varied clerical records related to materials, purchasing, processing, circulation and inventory.
  20. Performs a variety of clerical duties for the Library Media Specialist including word processing, scanning, filing and duplicating. ย 
  21. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Library Media Specialist and the Administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma; and two years of college level courses in library science or computer science; and/or two years of work experience in a library setting and/or providing technical support; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior successful experience working in a school or library setting strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires the ability to lift and carry light equipment (25-50 lbs.) such as computers, portable sound systems, book carts etc. as well as pushing carts, stocking and organizing books and moving furniture to accommodate flexible seating.
TERMS:ย 10-month position with salary and benefits in accordance with the contract between the Weston Board of Education and Local 1303-110 of Council 4 AFSCME
