No Experience Entry Level Asic Design Engineer information

What is a no experience entry level ASIC design engineer?

A No Experience Entry Level ASIC Design Engineer is a recent graduate or someone transitioning into the field of ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) design with little to no prior professional experience. These engineers typically assist senior team members in designing, testing, and verifying custom integrated circuits used in electronics. Their responsibilities often include learning industry-standard design tools, understanding basic digital and analog circuit concepts, and supporting various stages of the ASIC development process while gaining hands-on experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a no experience entry level ASIC design engineer?

To thrive as a No Experience Entry Level ASIC Design Engineer, you need a solid understanding of digital logic design, circuit fundamentals, and a relevant engineering degree (such as Electrical or Computer Engineering). Familiarity with hardware description languages like Verilog or VHDL, as well as simulation and design tools such as Synopsys or Cadence, is typically expected. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills help you learn quickly and contribute to complex projects. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of ASIC designs in collaborative engineering environments.

What types of projects and training can a no experience entry level ASIC design engineer expect in their first year?

As a No Experience Entry Level ASIC Design Engineer, you can expect to start with comprehensive onboarding and training sessions covering digital design fundamentals, ASIC design flows, and relevant Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools. Early projects are typically focused on assisting senior engineers with tasks such as module-level design, verification, and documentation under close supervision. You’ll often work as part of a collaborative team, participating in code reviews and weekly design meetings, which helps build both technical and communication skills. Many companies also offer mentorship programs to support your professional growth and provide feedback as you advance.

We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

As an FPGA Design Engineer II you will develop FPGA designs for all major vendors and device families including: Xilinx, Altera, and Microsemi. Designs are implemented using VHDL for the following applications: gigabit serial interfaces, Radio Frequency (RF) and Electro-Optical (EO) DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing and processor interfaces.

Designers work with circuit card designers and systems engineers to develop requirements, architect new parts, collaborative modeling of algorithms, partition and perform code development, simulation, and place and route. Designs are verified against requirements using both directed test and constrained random methodologies. Design support is expected from requirements definition through integration and test. Design documentation and configuration management are required.

What You Will Do

  • Design and deliver production quality FPGA releases from initial proof of concept up to production

  • Architect FPGA-based systems to determine parts, interfaces, and Concept of Operations (CONOPS)

  • Translate system level requirements into FPGA requirements

  • Design and code in VHDL for reliability and maintainability

  • Verify designs utilizing self-checking techniques with directed and constrained random tests, while tracking functional and code coverage

  • Help drive projects and execute to program schedules on time and budget

  • Create complete documentation including requirements, verification plan, and user’s guides

  • May lead small teams and mentor junior engineers

  • May support internal and external technical reviews

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience
