Job Title: Dietitian
Job Family: Hospital โ€“ Direct Patient Care (Allied Health)

Job Summary:

The Dietitian is responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to patients, employees, and the community in alignment with Baptist Healthโ€™s mission, vision, and values. The role focuses on delivering safe, high-quality nutrition care, ensuring patient satisfaction, maintaining regulatory compliance, and promoting effective use of healthcare resources.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care โ€“ 40%

  • Assess patients using the standardized Nutrition Care Process to identify and address medical nutrition needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient tolerance and response to therapeutic diets.
  • Provide individualized nutrition education and counseling to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Apply current evidence-based nutrition research and practices in patient care.

Indirect Patient Care โ€“ 40%

  • Complete and document comprehensive nutrition assessments.
  • Review and maintain patient data to recommend, prescribe, or modify therapeutic diets and nutritional interventions.
  • Write or approve orders for therapeutic diets, dietary supplements, and nutritional supplements as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, social work, and other hospital departments to meet patientsโ€™ nutritional needs.
  • Complete all required documentation, reports, and logs accurately and within established timelines.

Regulatory, Safety & Quality โ€“ 10%

  • Follow infection-control, patient safety, HIPAA, and confidentiality policies.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in the hospitalโ€™s Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Nutrition team on nutrition care manuals, patient menus, nutritional supplements, and enteral nutrition products.

Professional Leadership & Development โ€“ 10%

  • Attend weekly Registered Dietitian (RD) meetings and participate in professional development activities.
  • Seek feedback, learning opportunities, and guidance to continuously improve clinical practice.
  • Support departmental change initiatives and contribute positively to team development.
  • Assist with the orientation and training of dietetic interns and staff as needed.
Required Qualifications:
  • No prior experience required.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Dietetics or a related Nutrition field.
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Dietetics required for graduates after January 2024, from an accredited institution approved by ACEND/AND.
  • Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or registry eligibility.
  • Licensed Dietitian in the state of practice.
  • BLS certification required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Registered Dietitian.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Strong patient-service skills, professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail.
