Description

Simplex designs and manufactures Load Banks and Fuel Supply systems for power generation and liquid automation. Our Products are used world-wide for mission critical environments in manufacturing, technology, hospitals, data centers and the U.S. military. At Simplex, we are experts at building products that meet our customers' exact requirements.

The duties of the Controls Engineer will consist of creating, modifying and testing controls software to provide control of our equipment while meeting our customer's specifications. Proficiency will be attained on the job including the acquisition of a working knowledge of our products and their application. The controls engineer is expected to grow quickly in knowledge and ability to the point of assuming independent work in a period of 1-2 months and demonstrate continual growth thereafter.

  • Work closely with engineering personnel to create, modify and test controls software
  • Analyze sales orders and customer specifications
  • Input information into proprietary software accurately and efficiently
  • Modify programs with the changes required to achieve intended operation and functionality
  • Build PLC/HMI programs to meet customer expectations
  • Troubleshoot service-related issues related to programming
  • Travel to job sites as needed to assist with controls integration (less than 5%)
  • Maintain a workflow that ensures timely adherence to the schedule


Requirements

  • Technical background including education and/or experience equivalent to 4-year degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • PLC/HMI programming experience
  • Understanding of Networking/Communication using major industrial network protocols
  • Ability to learn and understand new programming software
  • Strong attention to detail, and a working understanding of electrical theory
  • Ability to read electrical schematics
  • Ability to identify (through both observation and conversation) key requirements needed to develop controls that will meet the demands of our customers
  • Computer skills including familiarity with Office and ability to learn proprietary software quickly
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work effectively under demanding deadlines
  • Ability to remain seated and work from a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to receive and retain instructional information
  • The ideal candidate will have experience using a variety of PLC/HMI programming platforms, NI Labview, and/or equivalents.
  • Must be able to communicate (read, write and speak) the English language clearly
  • Experience working with engineering in a manufacturing environment a plus
