Summary of Position
The faculty position is an instructional position directly responsible to the Site Director, North Service Area and TDCJ. The instructor's duties and responsibilities include teaching students and performing instructional, advising, curriculum development, and program coordination duties within the Prison Education Program.
This is a 12-month faculty position with a teaching load of 3/3/2 to support student advising, curriculum development, program coordination, and adaptation of Computer Science curriculum for delivery within the correctional environment.
Education and Experience
Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline related to the coursework to be taught. Doctorate Degree is desired.
Two years of teaching experience preferred.
Experience with curriculum development, online learning systems, or workforce-aligned technology instruction preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Ability
• Must be punctual, dependable, and have the ability to follow directions and proficiently complete tasks.
• Demonstrates knowledge in the subject matter being taught.
• Ability to communicate with students in a clear manner using both written and oral communication.
• Ability to author tests, lesson plans, laboratory activities, and instructional materials.
• Ability to provide academic, transfer, and career guidance to students as needed.

Essential Functions
• Teach Computer Science courses according to syllabi and textbooks as approved by the department.
• Adhere to assigned class time schedules.
• Prepare daily lesson plans to ensure students are progressing through required course objectives.
• Develop and modify Computer Science curriculum and instructional materials to align with correctional environment restrictions and approved technologies.
• Coordinate the development and implementation of Computer Science programming within the Prison Education Program.
• Support program planning, scheduling, and course sequencing for incarcerated students pursuing Computer Science pathways.
• Advise the North Service Area office of needed supplies, books, equipment, and printing within 72 hours of needed time.
• Maintain and submit certification rosters and final grade books by deadlines set by the registrar.
• Provide statistical information to the office as requested.
• Keep supervisor informed of student needs and concerns.
• Ensure confidentiality of all tests and student records.
• Track attendance and post final grades.
• Attend graduations and pre-service and in-service trainings.
• Provide intrusive advising tailored to incarcerated students, including degree planning, timeline management, transfer guidance, and reentry-focused academic support.
• Provide structured tutoring and academic support in Computer Science and related technology coursework.
• Monitor student progress, identify at-risk students, and coordinate with unit education staff and Windham School District partners.
• Support alignment between prison-based instruction and main-campus academic standards.
• Participate in assessment and accreditation activities and assist with documentation related to SACSCOC, federal Prison Education Program regulations, and grant reporting requirements.
• Mentor adjunct faculty and serve as an academic liaison to institutional and correctional partners.
