Job Description

ATANE is actively seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to support transportation construction projects throughout New Jersey. The successful candidate will oversee construction activities on major highway, bridge, and infrastructure projects for the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Resident Engineer on transportation construction projects.
  • Manage construction inspection staff and coordinate daily field operations.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
  • Coordinate with agency personnel, contractors, utility companies, and stakeholders.
  • Review contractor schedules, shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, and payment estimates.
  • Monitor quality assurance, materials testing, project documentation, and contract compliance.
  • Prepare and review daily reports, meeting minutes, and project correspondence.
  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements and Maintenance & Protection of Traffic (MPT).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous Resident Engineer experience on NJDOT and/or NJTA transportation construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NJDOT Standard Specifications/NJTA procedures, and construction administration.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple inspection staff and coordinate with agency personnel.

  • Strong knowledge of NJDOT Standard Specifications/NJTA procedures, and construction administration.

Preferred Certifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Rutgers Traffic Control Coordinator (TCC)
  • New Jersey Society of Asphalt Technologists (NJSAT)
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
