Join Our AoPS Academy as a Language Arts Instructor!

Are you passionate about language arts? Do you love inspiring young minds in an engaging, collaborative classroom setting? We have the perfect opportunity for you!

The Part-Time Instructor will:

  • Teach Engaging Curriculum: Use company-created curriculum and materials designed for advanced students to lead small classes in language arts
  • Engage Students: Actively involve students in each class or student-led learning
  • Classroom Management: Expertly manage up to 16 students
  • Grade & Provide Feedback: Provide feedback on tests and assignments
  • Build Relationships: Connect with students and families to make a lasting impact on their educational journey
  • Inspire Learning: Encourage a love for learning and critical thinking in language arts

The Ideal Candidate has:

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • A Bachelor's degree in education or a humanities field is strongly preferred
  • Strong content knowledge in reading, writing, and/or grammar
  • Classroom teaching experience at the K-12 level is preferred.

Not Required:

  • A formal teaching credential is not required for this position.

Schedule:

  • AoPS Academy is an afterschool program with classes in the evenings and on weekends. Candidates must be available to teach during weekday after-school hours (as early as 4pm) and/or on weekends.
  • This position requires a minimum initial commitment of about 3 hours per week for each assigned class.
  • Each course meets once per week for 1 hour 45 minutes.

Our team is currently seeking candidates to fill the following classes:

Honors Language Arts 3: Students develop intermediate reading, writing, and grammar skills while exploring Ancient Greece. Students study Greek myths to strengthen their reading comprehension skills, and explore genre-specific writing techniques through engaging research and writing projects. By the end of this language arts course, students will have produced multiple narrative and persuasive texts, refined their public speaking skills, and created the foundation necessary to grow as independent thinkers and problem solvers.

Honors Language Arts 4: Students embark on a journey through pivotal moments in American history by analyzing an extensive range of works – from Revolutionary-era propaganda and Civil War speeches to the pivotal essays of the suffrage movement. Students assume the roles of a historical analyst, advocate, and creative writer to conduct thorough research and craft sophisticated arguments. Students will finish the course with the skills they need to write clear and compelling analytical essays and creative narratives that showcase their mastery of language arts within historical inquiry.
