Position Summary:
The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading all production activities on the assigned shift to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. This position oversees staffing, line performance, productivity, quality, and GMP adherence while ensuring finished products meet all customer and regulatory specifications. The Supervisor serves as the key leader for coordinating cross-functional activities between QA, Maintenance, Sanitation, and Warehouse to support continuous improvement and operational excellence in a food manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Daily Production Management:
  • Direct and oversee production teams, ensuring adequate staffing, proper job rotation, and effective workload distribution.
  • Conduct daily shift meetings focused on safety, quality, production targets, downtime, and priorities.
  • Ensure all equipment is started up, operated, and shut down according to SOPs and safety guidelines.
  • Proactively manage production flow to meet schedule requirements, minimize downtime, and achieve output goals.
  • Monitor line performance using KPIs (efficiency, waste, yield, uptime) and drive actions to improve results.

Quality, Specification Adherence & Food Safety
  • Responsible for ensuring all product produced meets customer and internal specifications, including:
  • Weight, dimensions, and packaging configuration
  • Coding accuracy and traceability requirements
  • Case integrity, label compliance, and pallet quality
  • Ensure all in-process checks (weights, metal detection, CCP/CP monitoring, coding verification) are completed accurately and on time.
  • Enforce immediate corrective actions for any out-of-spec product, deviations, or foreign material concerns.
  • Maintain full compliance with SQF, HACCP, FDA, USDA (if applicable), and internal audit requirements.
  • Support root cause investigations and implement permanent corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

GMP, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Champion GMP compliance, proper gowning, hygiene requirements, and allergen control procedures.
  • Conduct routine GMP, safety, and housekeeping audits; correct deficiencies in real time.
  • Ensure all safety rules are followed, including PPE use, safe lifting, LOTO requirements (where applicable), and machine guarding.
  • Collaborate with EH&S on accident investigations, near-miss reporting, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized production environment using 5S and sanitation standards.

People Development, Training & Team Culture
  • Train and evaluate employees on SOPs, GMPs, job responsibilities, and equipment operation.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and documentation of employee performance or disciplinary actions.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify high-potential employees and support skill development and cross-training initiatives.
  • Address and resolve employee concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Work with HR Manager to handle/report employee relations issues.

Documentation, Reporting & Communication:
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of all production documents, including
  • Production logs, downtime logs, and yield reports
  • CCP/CP and QA checks
  • Waste, rework, and inventory tracking

Changeover, startup, and sanitation verification:
  • Ensure all documentation is legible, compliant, and completed in real time.
  • Communicate shift updates during handoff and participate in daily production and cross-functional meetings.
  • Coordinate with QA, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Sanitation to ensure smooth operations and rapid issue resolution.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in food manufacturing or production leadership.
  • Strong working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, CCP/CP monitoring, and food safety regulations.
  • Bilingual in Spanish (Read, Write & Speak) Required
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive results, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Fundamental bilingual communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and enforce SOPs, specifications, and regulatory requirements.

Preferred:
  • Prior experience as a Lead, Supervisor, or Coordinator in a food production environment.
  • Knowledge of SQF, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement tools.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs when necessary.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and working around moving machinery.
  • Ability to work in cold, hot, humid, or noisy environments depending on production area.

Work Environment:
  • Fast-paced food manufacturing operation with exposure to mechanical equipment, conveyors, forklifts, wet floors, and temperature-controlled areas.
