This position functions within a structured Die Repair Training Program designed to develop the skills required to operate, load, repair, and maintain dies to meet required tolerance standards. The training program typically spans approximately two years and includes scheduled classroom instruction. Participants are formally assessed every 1,000 hours to evaluate progress, skill development, and readiness for more advanced responsibilities. Throughout the program, the trainee progressively performs die set-ups, changeovers, troubleshooting, and repairs, advancing toward more complex die work under supervision. Individuals may also bring equivalent practical experience that supports their development within the program.

What you will be doing:

Diagnostic Review and Problem Tracing

• Reviews stamped parts and/or stamped strip to identify defects.
• Traces issues beyond the initial visual defect through the strip and associated tooling to determine the root cause within the die.
• Evaluates the impact of potential changes or replacements on other components within the tooling system.

Tooling Repair and Replacement

• Removes and replaces tooling components such as pierce punches, slot punches, guide pins, serration blocks, forming stations, closing stations, swaging stations, flattening stations, stamps, and similar parts.
• Measures removed components and new components to determine proper shim requirements for achieving specified dimensions and tolerances.

Inspection and Measurement

• Uses various inspection instruments-including comparators, micrometers, ring and plug gauges, and other precision tools-to verify part tolerances and ensure compliance with specifications.

Die Set-Up and Changeover

• Retrieves dies from storage, removes the existing die from the press, and installs the new die.
• Adjusts feed mechanisms to accommodate stock size and required die lead.
• Changes de-reelers for appropriate material formats (pancake, spool, etc.).
• Positions oil lines correctly and attach milling or swaging devices when required by the operation.
• Performs die changeovers in-press to switch tooling for different part numbers as needed.

Training and Development

• Participate in formal training programs designed to build skills in die repair and set-up functions.
• May be subject to committee review as part of the structured development process.

Other duties:

• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Follow documented policies and procedures as designated by the company's Employee Handbook and Local Work Rules. In addition, adhere to the proper Code of Conduct while on company property.

Requirements

What you will bring to the team:

• Completion of or willingness to participate in-company-provided classroom instruction as part of the Die Technician Training Program.
• Ability to successfully complete scheduled training courses and assessments every 1,000 hours throughout the two-year program.
• Prior mechanical, manufacturing, machining, tool & die, or related industrial experience. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including comfort working with hand tools, precision measuring devices, and mechanical equipment.
• Exposure to stamping, metalworking, or production environments is beneficial.
• Individuals with equivalent hands-on or vocational experience may enter the program with advanced skill alignment
