At RWJBarnabas Health, our Registered Nurses at Children's Specialized Hospital provide compassionate, specialized care that helps children with complex medical needs live healthier, fuller lives. As a Full-Time Night Shift RN supporting our Long-Term Care Unit in Mountainside, you'll deliver expert rehabilitative nursing care while building meaningful relationships with children and their families. Working alongside an experienced interdisciplinary team, you'll play a vital role in promoting comfort, maximizing independence, and supporting each child's long-term health goals. As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

  • Performing comprehensive nursing assessments and utilizing the nursing process to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care for pediatric long-term care patients
  • Delivering compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to children with complex medical, developmental, neurological, and rehabilitative needs throughout the night shift
  • Collaborating with physicians, therapists, respiratory therapists, case managers, and the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care
  • Monitoring patients for changes in condition, responding promptly to clinical concerns, and communicating updates to the healthcare team to ensure safe, high-quality care
  • Providing individualized education and emotional support to patients and families while promoting confidence, engagement, and continuity of care
  • Delegating appropriate responsibilities to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants while fostering teamwork and maintaining excellent standards of patient care
  • Serving as a mentor and clinical resource for nurse externs, nursing assistants, students, and newly hired staff while supporting a collaborative learning environment
  • Promoting continuity of care through accurate documentation, interdisciplinary communication, and adherence to organizational policies and evidence-based practice
  • Assuming relief Charge Nurse responsibilities as needed to support unit operations and patient care delivery
  • Creating a safe, respectful, and family-centered environment that recognizes each child's unique physical, developmental, emotional, cultural, and psychosocial needs

To be considered for this Registered Nurse opportunity, you must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification is required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is preferred or must be obtained within one year of hire for inpatient nurses. Previous pediatric and/or rehabilitation nursing experience is preferred, although nurses with 0 to 6 months of experience are encouraged to apply. Candidates should possess strong clinical assessment, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills, along with a passion for delivering exceptional pediatric rehabilitative care in a family-centered environment.

This is a full-time night shift position working 36 hours per week, offering the opportunity to build lasting relationships with patients and families while collaborating with one of the nation's premier pediatric rehabilitation teams during overnight operations.
