You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NAVAL ARCHITECT) in the HULL STRUCTURE BRANCH (250.1), STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DIVISION of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Help
  • You will plan and execute assignments and projects to meet required objectives.
  • You will utilize engineering drawings, technical manuals, and/or other technical materials in the performance of naval architectural work.
  • You will develop plans associated with the functional design, performance and evaluation of various underwater structural systems.
  • You will negotiate and justify projects to managers on conflicting priorities.
  • You will be working 2nd shift.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
GS-09
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports, estimates, status report, instructions, and procedures.
  • Experience reviewing design drawings, material requirements and certifications.
  • Experience installing and testing equipment and system involved in a ship's depot.
  • Experience coordinating with other engineers and engineer technicians.
  • Experience applying knowledge of techniques, principal, and practices of naval architecture and engineering technology.

GS-07
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience assisting in preparing and reviewing technical reports, estimates, status report, instructions, and procedures.
  • Experience supporting in reviewing design drawings, material requirements and certifications.
  • Experience aiding in installing and testing of equipment and system involved in a ship's depot.
  • Experience assisting with the coordination of engineers and engineering technicians.
  • Experience applying knowledge of the techniques, principal, and practices of naval architecture and engineering technology.
