Job description

We are seeking a Software / Integration Engineer responsible for designing, developing, and integrating software solutions within authorized and controlled environments. This role will support system and application integrations, implement secure data exchanges, and develop configurable logging and audit capabilities to support egress/leakage auditing and traceability.

The Software / Integration Engineer will work across technical teams to ensure integrations operate reliably and securely while meeting established technical and security requirements. This role requires strong software engineering and integration experience, with an emphasis on secure system interoperability, logging, monitoring, and auditability.


  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain software integrations across applications, systems, platforms, and authorized environments
  • Develop integration components, services, and interfaces to support secure and reliable data exchange between systems
  • Implement and support integrations within defined technical, security, and operational boundaries
  • Develop and maintain configurable application and system logging to support monitoring, auditing, troubleshooting, and security requirements
  • Ensure logs contain appropriate information to support traceability and can be ingested into enterprise monitoring and analysis platforms
  • Support integration of application and system logs with Splunk to enable monitoring, analysis, and audit capabilities
  • Implement audit trails to capture relevant system activities, data exchanges, and integration events
  • Support per-round egress and leakage auditing to identify and document potential unauthorized or unintended data exposure
  • Develop mechanisms to track, validate, and audit data movement across system and environment boundaries
  • Troubleshoot integration, connectivity, data exchange, logging, and system interoperability issues
  • Collaborate with software engineers, cybersecurity teams, infrastructure teams, cloud engineers, and other technical stakeholders to develop and maintain secure integrations
  • Incorporate security, logging, and audit requirements throughout software and integration development
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for integrations, interfaces, data flows, logging configurations, and audit capabilities
  • Support testing and validation of software integrations, logging, and audit functionality
  • Utilize version control, CI/CD, and software engineering best practices throughout the development lifecycle
  • Support an Agile software development lifecycle

 


  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, systems integration, application integration, or related technical disciplines
  • Strong programming and software development experience using modern programming languages and development frameworks
  • Experience designing and implementing integrations between applications, systems, services, or platforms
  • Experience developing and integrating APIs, services, or other system interfaces
  • Experience implementing application or system logging, monitoring, and audit capabilities
  • Understanding of secure system integration, data exchange, and data movement across system or environment boundaries
  • Knowledge of security principles related to application and system integration, including access control, data protection, and auditability
  • Experience configuring application and system logs for ingestion into Splunk
  • Experience troubleshooting complex software integration, connectivity, and data exchange issues
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git and CI/CD practices
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills

Preferred: 

  • Experience implementing audit trails and data egress monitoring capabilities
  • Experience supporting software integrations within controlled, restricted, or highly regulated environments
  • Experience with cloud-based application and system integrations
  • Experience with containerized applications, microservices, or distributed systems
  • Experience with automated testing and integration testing
  • Experience implementing encryption within system integrations in accordance with federal standards to protect data confidentiality and integrity
  • Knowledge of federal cybersecurity, logging, monitoring, or audit requirements
  • Experience working within federal government or other highly regulated environments
  • Relevant software engineering, cloud, integration, or cybersecurity certification

Steampunk relies on several factors to determine salary, including but not limited to geographic location, contractual requirements, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The projected compensation range for this position is $140,000 to $170,000.  The estimate displayed represents a typical annual salary range for this position.
