Job description

Make a Difference with Avivo.

At Avivo Village, we believe everyone deserves housing, dignity, and support. Our unique harm reduction shelter provides safe, low-barrier access for individuals experiencing homelessness—many of whom face complex challenges related to mental health, substance use, and trauma. Join our team and be part of something transformative.

About Us

Avivo’s Ending Homelessness Division is committed to providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and harm reduction-based services. At Avivo Village, we offer an alternative to encampments through private shelter units, compassionate staff support, and meaningful connections to housing and health services. We meet people where they are—with radical welcome and deep respect.

Your Role

As an On-Call Resident Advocate, you’ll be at the heart of our shelter community—providing direct support, ensuring safety, and creating a welcoming environment for our residents. You’ll monitor wellness, de-escalate crises, distribute meals and harm reduction supplies, and contribute to the upkeep and integrity of the Village. You’ll play a vital part in creating a space where dignity, healing, and hope thrive.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Engage residents with daily support, activities, and wellness checks.
  • Respond to crises with compassion—administering Narcan, calling emergency services, and using trauma-informed approaches.
  • Monitor the safety and cleanliness of rooms, bathrooms, and common areas.
  • Provide meals and uphold food safety standards.
  • Support residents through transitions—whether discharging, moving in, or receiving care.
  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and clean facility—inside and out.
  • Uphold the values of Absolute Dignity, Leaning into Curiosity, and Radical Welcome in every interaction.

On-Call Schedule Availability:

  • In order to pick up shifts you must be available for some or all of these shifts weekdays/weekends: 2nd shift from 2:00pm - 10:30pm, 3rd shift 10:00pm - 6:30am
  • This position is eligible for shift differential pay depending on the shift worked.
What You Offer
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; coursework in health or human services is preferred.
  • Two years of experience supporting individuals with long-term homelessness, mental health needs, or substance use challenges.
  • Lived experience is recognized and valued.
  • A deep commitment to harm reduction, housing-first, and inclusive care models.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to de-escalate conflict and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to clear background checks.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
What We Offer (Full-Time Staff)
  • Medical/Dental plans
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)/Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Nice Healthcare: offers chat, video visits and in-home primary care visits
  • Basic Life/AD&D & Voluntary Life/AD&D
  • Long term disability
  • Option to purchase critical illness, accident insurance and short-term disability
  • 401(k) Plan
  • 10 Paid holidays & generous PTO
  • Flexible schedule
