Job description

We're looking to grow our Engineering Team at NLS!

Are you ready to take on complex engineering challenges and make an impact on client solutions? If you're an experienced engineer who enjoys owning technical work from design through implementation, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is excited about the future of technology, this could be the role for you.

As a Senior Solutions Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering complex client solutions within the NLS Engineering Department. You'll work with a high degree of autonomy, taking ownership of solution components and integrations from technical design through implementation and deployment.

But this isn't just about building great technology on your own. You'll work alongside Technical Leads, project leadership, client technical teams, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements and technical designs into working, maintainable solutions. You'll also have the opportunity to share your knowledge with Junior Engineers, participate in code reviews, and help teammates work through technical challenges.

Your technical toolkit may include C#, .NET, SQL, APIs, JavaScript/Angular, Azure, and other modern development platforms and tools. You'll work across applications, integrations, APIs, data, configurations, and supporting technical components to help deliver solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and built to meet client needs.

And there's room to look beyond today's solutions, too. You'll have opportunities to contribute to internal innovation initiatives, develop reusable components and delivery accelerators, improve engineering practices, and explore emerging technologies—including AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools where appropriate.

What's in it for you? The opportunity to take ownership of challenging technical work, work directly with clients, expand your Duck Creek and insurance domain expertise, and help shape how we deliver solutions today and in the future.

If you're ready to bring your engineering expertise to a team where your work makes a difference, apply now!

*We know you care about benefits and perks, so feel free to scroll down to that section, and then scroll back up to learn more about this role.

What You'll Do:

  • Independently complete complex engineering tasks within client implementation projects with limited guidance.

  • Take ownership of solution components and integrations from technical design through implementation and deployment.

  • Translate business requirements and technical designs into working, maintainable solutions.

  • Develop, configure, test, troubleshoot, and document technical solution components.

  • Develop and maintain Duck Creek integrations and extensions.

  • Build APIs, services, integrations, and supporting applications required to enable solution delivery.

  • Work across different technologies, platforms, and tools required for client delivery.

  • Anticipate, identify, and resolve technical challenges, escalating to Technical Leads or project leadership when appropriate.

  • Ensure your work is delivered with quality, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Follow established development standards, delivery processes, documentation practices, and code review expectations.

  • Work directly with client technical teams, project leadership, and stakeholders on assigned work.

  • Clarify requirements and communicate technical progress, risks, and design decisions.

  • Support the integration of solutions within the client's broader technology ecosystem.

  • Provide informal technical guidance and support to Junior Engineers and other team members.

  • Participate in code reviews and help others work through technical problems.

  • Share Duck Creek and insurance domain knowledge across the team.

  • Contribute to internal initiatives that improve engineering practices and delivery capabilities.

  • Help develop reusable components, accelerators, and engineering standards.

  • Learn and apply emerging technologies and tools that improve engineering productivity and solution delivery, including AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools where appropriate.

What You'll Bring:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering enterprise software implementations or integrations.

  • Hands-on experience implementing the Duck Creek platform.

  • Strong full-stack engineering experience implementing policy administration systems and integrating within enterprise systems.

  • Experience implementing policy administration systems or other core insurance platforms.

  • Experience designing or delivering enterprise system integrations.

  • Experience with technologies such as C#, .NET, SQL, APIs, JavaScript/Angular, Azure, or similar modern development platforms and tools.

  • Experience working with applications, integrations, APIs, data, configuration, or supporting technical components.

  • Experience working in client delivery or consulting environments.

  • Experience working within Agile software development environments.

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the judgment to ask questions, raise blockers, and provide clear updates on assigned work.

  • Ability to analyze requirements, understand technical direction, and apply feedback from Technical Leads and Architects.

  • Experience in P&C insurance, policy administration, billing, claims, or related insurance platforms strongly preferred.

  • Experience using AI-assisted development, agentic coding tools, and automation preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field preferred, or equivalent professional experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position, primarily Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST.

  • Ability to work outside of primary hours as needed.

  • Remote opportunity or the option to work from one of our offices in Springfield, MO; San Juan, Puerto Rico; or Honduras.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

Why Join NLS?

Bring your experience, curiosity, and technical expertise to a team where you can make a real impact. As a Senior Solutions Engineer, you'll have the autonomy to own complex technical work while collaborating with talented professionals across engineering, project leadership, and client teams.

We're looking for engineers who enjoy solving problems, taking ownership, and continuously learning. You'll have the opportunity to deepen your Duck Creek and insurance domain expertise, mentor and support other engineers, contribute to innovative engineering initiatives, and help build better ways of delivering solutions to our clients.

Whether you're designing an integration, troubleshooting a complex technical challenge, collaborating directly with a client, or exploring new tools and technologies, your work will directly contribute to the success of our projects and our continued growth.

If you're looking for a role where you can put your engineering experience to work on meaningful client solutions while continuing to grow as a technical leader, we'd love to hear from you!
