Scholarships for the EICC Sonography Program!

Medical Associates, the area's leading healthcare provider multispecialty group practice based out of Dubuque, Iowa is currently offering a competitive scholarship opportunity for Sonography students.

Scholarships are available for students who have enrolled in the Eastern Iowa Community College's (EICC) Sonography program for Fall 2026. EICC has partnered with NICC to allow Dubuque area students the opportunity to take all prerequisite program courses and required general education courses through NICC, either in person or online before transferring to EICC to complete the Sonography program.

Sonography (also referred to as Ultrasound or US) is a two-year (20 month) program. Ideal candidates possess strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task and a high level of professionalism. Individuals will be helpful and courteous to all team members while creating a positive work environment.

What does a Sonographer do:

As a Sonographer at Medical Associates, you will be responsible for scanning appropriate areas of the body to produce images as requested, performing preliminary assessments, documenting patient histories and providing the interpreting physician with preliminary findings. Duties will also include patient education, archiving imagery, and performing instrument maintenance which includes troubleshooting and repair.

Scholarship Details:

  • Fully funded tuition for the US program (valued up to $18,000!) at NICC and EICC Sonography program beginning August 2026.
  • NICC students will complete general prerequisite coursework at NICC and then complete the remaining sonography program at EICC's Scott Community College Campus in Bettendorf , Iowa. The program includes classroom instruction as well as clinical and lab experiences.
  • National certification exam fee paid after completion of the program, through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) โ€“ certification due within 6 months of program completion.
  • Students must maintain an overall good standing with the school (attendance, behaviors, etc.) and must earn at least a 78% in each course.
  • Scholarship recipient shall be hired and begin work in a full-time position at Medical Associates upon successful completion of the program.

Medical Associates will cover the cost of tuition, books, and exam fees not covered by other federal, state, institutional and private awards including Federal Pell Grant and Last Dollar Scholar. In other words, we will cover the remaining fees after all other federal, state, and private funding has been applied. (Note: Currently the Iowa Last Dollar Scholar program is available for the EICC component of this coursework and Iowa residents should apply.)

Employment Details Upon Completion of Program:

  • Scholarship recipient agrees to work full-time (36-40 hours/week) for Medical Associates upon graduation.

Eligibility Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or GED or higher. See admission guidelines above. One of the options must be met to be ARDMS board exam eligible.

N ICC /EICC Sonography Partnership Program: In order to be considered for our scholarship, you must apply and be accepted into the EICC Sonography program. Prerequisite courses are offered at NICC in the first semester (Gen Ed courses ). NICC's Radiography program graduates are considered as successfully completing all prerequisite coursework.

Students beginning the program or starting their 2nd year of the program (at EICC) in Fall 2026 may be eligible. Rad Tech graduates will have met all of the admission requirements and will already have completed the prerequisites. Those with other 24-month allied health backgrounds or a baccalaureate degree may be missing some of the prerequisites. Prerequisites are completed prior to admission into the sonography program.

Experience: Customer Service or healthcare experience preferred. Helpful academic background (but not required) include biology, chemistry, and mathematics.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.

Other Skills: Keyboarding skills and use of electronic equipment.

Physical Aspects:

Stooping - Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Kneeling - Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Crouching - Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Reaching - Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing - Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking - Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.

Pushing - Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Pulling - Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting - Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Fingering - Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

Grasping - Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Feeling - Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

Talking - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.

Hearing - Perceiving the nature of sound with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.

Vision - 20 / 40 or better in the best eye with or without correction

Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds force constantly to move objects.
