Job Title: Data Engineer with Colorado Avalanche

Reports to: Sr. Data Engineer

Employment Type: Full Time - Employment Contract - Salary

Position Overview

The Colorado Avalanche are looking to hire a full-time data engineer to work within the team’s Hockey Operations Department. This person will complement the team’s Senior Data Engineer in maintaining and expanding the Avalanche hockey operations database. They will be tasked with importing and integrating data from external providers and interacting with the rest of the hockey operations department to ensure optimal dissemination of information to the appropriate parties. This person will also have the opportunity to contribute in developing a front-end interface and tools for the broader Hockey Operations Department.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and improve the organization’s data storage, structure, and ETL pipeline while optimizing query performance for large datasets
  • Design automated processes to oversee data integrity and query performance on a regular basis, as well as being available to spot and resolve data issues that may arise at any time
  • Ensure that our automated processes run on schedule without issue
  • Incorporate expansive new datasets from disparate sources into our structure in a seamless fashion
Required Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of ETL architecture and development in a cloud-based environment
  • Academic and/or industry experience in database architecture, back-end software design, and query optimization
  • Expertisein SQLand/or SQL-based tools (dbt,SQLMesh, etc.)
  • Experience with Git and development best-practices
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
  • A degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field
  • Work experience in a database-related position
  • Knowledge of Spark and large-scale data processing
  • Experience with Databricks and Azure
  • Knowledge of NHL players and teams as well as a passion for hockey and hockey analytics
  • Some front-end development acumen/experience is considered a significant plus
Compensation
  • Salary Range: $80,000-$95,000, Contract Employee
