Job description

About the Wynwood Business Improvement District (BID)

The Wynwood BID represents one of the most vibrant and creative urban districts in the country. Our mission is to elevate the neighborhood’s public realm, support local businesses, and position Wynwood as a global destination for art, innovation, and culture. Through public space management, policy advocacy, economic development, marketing, and events, the BID works to strengthen quality of life and economic vitality for all who live, work, and visit the district.

Position Summary

The Wynwood BID seeks a highly organized, creative, and execution-driven professional to lead public realm improvement and placemaking initiatives across the district. This role oversees a diverse portfolio of capital improvement and urban activation projects designed to enhance the experience, identity, and functionality of Wynwood’s public spaces.

Projects may include streetscape enhancements, pocket parks, pedestrian safety improvements, public art installations, parking initiatives, pop-up activations, street fairs, wayfinding systems, and other public space interventions. Working closely with the Executive Director, this position serves as the BID’s representative for capital projects—coordinating consultants, contractors, public agencies, community stakeholders, and internal teams from concept development through implementation.

The ideal candidate brings 3–5 years of experience in urban planning, placemaking, landscape architecture, community development, public space activation, or capital project management. A background in architecture or engineering is not required, but candidates must demonstrate success managing multidisciplinary public realm projects.

Key Responsibilities

Capital Projects & Public Realm Improvements

  • Manage capital and infrastructure projects from concept through construction, operational planning, and closeout.
  • Serve as the BID’s representative for public realm initiatives including streetscapes, pocket parks, lighting, signage, beautification, and pedestrian improvements.
  • Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary consultants: landscape architects, planners, engineers, fabricators, artists, contractors, and event vendors.
  • Assist in defining project scopes, schedules, budgets, procurement strategies, and implementation plans.
  • Track timelines, milestones, permitting, and deliverables to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinate with municipal agencies, utilities, property owners, and community stakeholders throughout project development and execution.
  • Support grant applications, capital funding pursuits, and public–private partnership opportunities.

Placemaking & Activation

  • Lead and support placemaking initiatives including temporary activations, public art programs, street fairs, outdoor events, parklets, and seasonal installations.
  • Develop operational and logistical plans for activations and public programming.
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and removal of temporary and seasonal improvements.
  • Contribute to district branding and neighborhood identity through creative public space programming.

Board & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Prepare presentations, reports, project updates, and materials for Board and committee meetings.
  • Present concepts, budgets, schedules, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate consultant selection processes, including RFP/RFQ development and procurement activities.
  • Negotiate consultant and vendor contracts in collaboration with BID leadership and legal counsel.

Budgeting & Administration

  • Develop and manage project budgets; monitor expenditures.
  • Prepare cost estimates, funding requests, and cash flow projections.
  • Maintain organized project documentation including contracts, schedules, permits, and meeting records.
  • Assist with annual work planning and capital improvement planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, architecture, landscape architecture, real estate development, construction management, geography, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of relevant project management experience in public realm improvements, placemaking, urban planning, capital projects, or community development.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants and managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Familiarity with design and construction processes for public space improvements.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare professional presentations, reports, and Board materials.
  • Experience managing budgets, schedules, procurement, and contracts.
  • Comfortable collaborating with public agencies, property owners, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and presentation software required; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, GIS, and project management software is a plus.

Preferred Characteristics

  • Entrepreneurial, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Strong design sensibility and appreciation for urban environments and public space.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on implementation.
  • Comfortable managing both long-term capital projects and fast-paced activations/events.
  • Passion for city-building, placemaking, and neighborhood revitalization.
