Job description

Retina Consultants San Diego is the oldest and most prestigious Retina practice in San Diego, with concierge-level patient care, high standards for professionalism and quality, advanced imaging modalities, heavy involvement in cutting-edge clinical trials, and exposure to advanced medical and surgical techniques. RCSD has offices throughout San Diego, with our home base in Poway and Satellite offices in La Jolla, Carlsbad, Coronado, and Hillcrest. We have four physicians who are leaders in their field and routinely lecture around the country and at national meetings. We are looking for an excellent candidate to join our team of scribes and technicians. Ideally, we would find a motivated candidate with a strong work ethic, leadership qualities, and high attention to detail. Candidates must work well with others and help us to always prioritize the patient experience.
Ophthalmic technicians perform the following duties:


  • Basic medical and ophthalmic history intake.

  • Visual acuity assessment.

  • Intraocular pressure measurement with Tonometer.

  • Administration of dilating and anesthetic eye drops.

  • Preparing patients for imaging and physician exam.

  • Prepping patients for ophthalmic procedures, including intraocular injections.

Advanced positions are also available with increased compensation including:


  • Electronic medical record scribing.

  • Involvement in clinical trials, including becoming certified for best-corrected visual acuity assessment and/or imaging.

  • Surgery scheduling.

  • Ophthalmic imaging including optical coherence tomography, fluorescein angiography, fundus photography, widefield imaging, macular microperimetry, dark adaptation testing.

Candidates must have the following:


  • Experience as an ophthalmic technician, photographer, and/or scribe.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, attention to detail, and communication skills.

Ideal candidates also have:


  • Experience working in a Retina clinic.

  • Scribes with experience using MD Intellysys (Nextech EMR).

  • COA or COT certification.

  • Bilingual (Spanish and English).

  • Ability to work at any of our 5 locations (Poway, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Hillcrest, Coronado).

This is a full-time position with hours from 8-5, Monday through Friday.
