Are you looking to take your career in construction to the next level? Do you have a passion for steel fabrication? Look no further!
About the Company

Our client is a recognized leader in the structural steel industry, known for delivering complex, large-scale fabrication and erection projects across the West Coast. With a reputation built on precision, integrity, and innovation, our client partners with some of the top contractors and developers in the region. Their team takes pride in high standards for safety, quality, and performance—and they are looking for a dedicated Project Engineer to join their team.

Position Overview

The Project Engineer supports the technical and engineering aspects of structural steel fabrication and erection projects. This role is integral to coordinating drawings, resolving field and fabrication challenges, and maintaining accurate project documentation—all to ensure the timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery of projects.

The ideal candidate brings 1–3 years of experience (minimum) in structural steel, with strong familiarity in fabrication and erection workflows.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers in planning, scheduling, and managing technical tasks throughout all project phases.
  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and design changes to ensure accuracy and constructability.
  • Coordinate between detailers, engineers, fabricators, and field erection teams to resolve discrepancies and technical issues.
  • Prepare, maintain, and track submittals, RFIs, shop drawing logs, and change documentation.
  • Assist in Design-Assist and Pre-Construction coordination by reviewing design intent and fabrication requirements.
  • Help plan and monitor fabrication release schedules, material deliveries, and field erection sequencing.
  • Perform site visits as needed to verify field conditions and support erection activities.
  • Track project progress, assist in cost and schedule monitoring, and provide technical support to ensure compliance with project goals.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to align Lean Construction workflows and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and organized digital documentation within project management systems.
  • Support LEED documentation efforts for applicable projects.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field preferred (not required).
  • 1–3 years of experience in structural steel project engineering, coordination, or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes, drawings, and terminology.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with project management systems (Procore, Tekla EPM, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite).
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to fabrication shops or job sites within California.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior hands-on exposure to steel fabrication or erection environments.
  • Knowledge of AISC/AWS standards and quality control procedures.
  • Experience supporting Lean Construction or Design-Assist
  • Familiarity with BIM or 3D modeling software (Tekla, Revit) a plus.

Why Join Our Client’s Team

  • Opportunity to work on high-profile, large-scale structural steel projects across the West Coast.
  • Supportive team environment where safety, quality and innovation are core values.
  • Professional growth and development: access to training, career advancement and exposure to best-in-class steel fabrication/erection practices.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package aligned with industry leadership.
