Job description

Engle Printing & Publishing Co., Inc. is seeking a talented, community-focused Feature Writer to join our editorial team. This position is ideal for a creative storyteller who enjoys connecting with people, covering local events, conducting interviews, and producing engaging content that informs and inspires readers.

As a Feature Writer, you will identify and develop stories of interest throughout our communities, conduct interviews, gather photographs, and create compelling content for our community newspapers, specialty publications, websites, and social media platforms.

Position Details

• Employment Type: Part-Time (up to 20 hours per week)

• Work Arrangement: Primarily Remote - Must be available to report in person for applicable interviews and assignments

• Schedule: Flexible; hours vary based on interview assignments and publication needs

• Reports To: Publisher

• Location: Candidates must be available to attend in-person interviews, events, and assignments as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Community Newspapers

Identify and pursue local stories with broad community interest.

Conduct interviews and gather information from sources.

Take or obtain photographs to accompany stories.

Write engaging feature articles for community newspapers and special supplements.

Enter and manage articles within the editorial database.

Make revisions and corrections as requested during the editing process.

Assist with page layout planning, ensuring strong stories and visuals receive appropriate placement.

Adapt content for digital platforms, including websites and social media.

Special Publications

Create content for specialty publications such as Lancaster Family, Gift Local, and other company publications.

Repurpose and adapt content for web and social media channels as needed.

Public & Community Engagement

Respond to inquiries from readers, clients, and community members via phone and email.

Coordinate interviews and obtain information from sources in a timely manner.

Help manage departmental communications.

Represent the company at community events, interviews, and public functions.

Collaboration

Work closely with the Publisher, editors, layout staff, and other departments to enhance content quality and solve challenges.

Contribute ideas that improve editorial content, design, and workflow processes.
