Job description

Are you dependable, safety-minded, and skilled at operating forklifts or clamp trucks? We are looking for a Newsprint Handler to join our fast-paced production team in Lakeland, Florida. This role is essential to keeping our press operations running smoothly by safely receiving, organizing, preparing, and moving large rolls of newsprint used in daily newspaper production.


Schedule

1st shift - Monday-Friday

 

What You’ll Do

As a Newsprint Handler, you’ll help manage more than 12,000 rolls of newsprint each year—each weighing approximately 1,800 pounds. You’ll unload shipments, maintain warehouse organization, manage inventory, prepare rolls for press use, and support the production team in a hands-on, high-volume environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Unload multiple truckloads of newsprint daily using fork trucks and/or clamp trucks.
  • Organize and maintain the paper warehouse to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Track and report inventory for various types and sizes of newsprint.
  • Pull, open, prepare, and move newsprint rolls to the press holding area based on production needs.
  • Identify damaged newsprint and take appropriate steps to reduce waste or production delays.
  • Communicate with transportation, logistics, operations, and finance teams as needed.
  • Assist with basic equipment troubleshooting and promptly report equipment concerns.
  • Cross-train to provide support as a Reel Tender when needed.

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong forklift skills; clamp truck experience is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and reporting.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to help troubleshoot equipment concerns.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and safety.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, lift up to 80 pounds, and push rolls of newsprint weighing up to 2,000 pounds.
  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems, and work well in a team environment.

 

Safety Expectations

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Complete required OSHA safety training programs.
  • Perform daily safety checks on warehouse fork trucks and clamp trucks.
  • Report safety hazards, equipment issues, operational concerns, accidents, or injuries immediately.
