Job description

We are seeking a skilled Web Press Operator to support high-quality newspaper print production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for operating and maintaining a multi-page cold-set web press, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards are consistently met.

The Lead Operator will also guide team members, assign tasks, and ensure smooth press operations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and monitor all phases of press production

  • Hang plates, fill ink fountains, and adjust ink densities

  • Prepare folders, splicers, infeeds, and related components

  • Ensure print quality including color consistency and registration accuracy

  • Detect and resolve print defects during production

  • Maintain production logs, shift reports, and quality documentation

  • Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on press equipment

  • Handle materials using forklifts or related equipment as needed

  • Follow all workplace safety standards and procedures

  • Lead and coordinate team activities (for Lead Operator responsibilities)


Equipment
  • 6-tower Heidelberg Harris single-round press

  • Two folders, infeeds, splicers

  • Remote inking and remote registration systems


Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating newspaper web presses

  • Strong understanding of printing techniques and color management

  • Experience with print quality control processes

  • Ability to operate machinery safely in a manufacturing environment

  • Valid driver's license (IA, MN, NE, or SD)

  • Ability to commute or relocate to Sheldon, IA
