Description
Position SummaryThe Snow College Office of Creative Services & Communications seeks a talented and detail-oriented Communications Writer and Editor to serve as the institution's primary content creator and editorial resource. This position develops, writes, edits, and manages a wide variety of communications that support the college's mission, strengthen its brand, and engage key audiences including prospective students, current students, alumni, employees, donors, community members, and media outlets.
As the college's editorial gatekeeper, this position helps ensure consistency in voice, tone, messaging, and quality across institutional communications. The Communications Writer and Editor collaborates closely with marketing and communications team members to support strategic storytelling, strengthen the college's reputation, and communicate the impact of Snow College to internal and external audiences.
Impact of the PositionThe Communications Writer and Editor serves as a key steward of Snow College's institutional voice. Through strategic storytelling, editorial leadership, publication management, and content development, this position helps shape how the college is perceived by prospective students, alumni, employees, donors, and the broader community. By ensuring consistency, clarity, and quality across communications, the position strengthens the college's reputation, supports enrollment and engagement efforts, and advances institutional goals.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
• Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
• Strong understanding of grammar, style, and editorial best practices.
• Ability to adapt writing style and tone for diverse audiences and communication channels.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
Preferred Qualifications• Experience in higher education communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.

Major Responsibilities/Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Write, edit, and distribute news releases and media communications that promote Snow College programs, events, achievements, and initiatives.
• Serve as editor and project manager for the Snow College magazine, overseeing content development, writing, editing, production, and publication.
• Manage and edit other major institutional publications, including commencement programs, event programs, recognition publications, and special print and digital publications.
• Serve as the college's primary editorial reviewer, editing and approving written communications distributed to alumni, prospective students, current students, employees, donors, and community stakeholders.
• Ensure consistency in institutional voice, messaging, editorial standards, and style across communications produced throughout the college.
• Develop compelling copy for marketing campaigns, advertisements, brochures, flyers, digital content, and promotional materials.
• Write and edit email communications for institutional audiences.
• Create scripts and copy for radio, television, video, and other multimedia advertising campaigns.
• Research, write, and edit biographies, feature stories, profiles, and other institutional publications.
• Manage the college's employee newsletter, including content planning, writing, editing, and publication.
• Work as a collaborative team with the web developer, graphic designer, and social media specialist to coordinate messaging and ensure a consistent communications strategy across print, digital, web, social media, and advertising platforms.
• Identify, research, and develop compelling stories that highlight student success, academic excellence, employee achievements, alumni accomplishments, and institutional impact.
• Conduct interviews with students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community partners to gather information and create engaging content for print, digital, and multimedia platforms.
• Transform complex or technical information into clear, accurate, and audience-focused stories that advance institutional priorities.
• Partner with campus departments to proactively identify newsworthy stories and communication opportunities that support enrollment, advancement, student engagement, and community outreach efforts.
• Provide editorial guidance and consultation to faculty, staff, and administrators on communication projects and messaging.
• Maintain editorial calendars and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and balancing competing priorities.
• Assist with strategic communication initiatives, crisis communications, and special projects as assigned.
