Job description

Summary:
The Chicago Tribune is seeking three Part-Time Warehouse Workers to join our team! In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks related to processing newspapers and supplements in our mailroom, primarily catching newsprint bundles off the stackers and assembling preprinted sections of the paper.
Please note: The hours are 5:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. (+/-) Tuesday-Saturday.
What you will do:
  • Pile newsprint papers from stackers or tyers onto pallets
  • Hand-stuff preprinted parts of the newspaper into "complete" packages
  • Move sections of newspapers and inserts stored on pallets using manual pallet jacks
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area
  • Follow recycling and material separation programs
  • Perform any of the job duties described in the mailroom as trained and required
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and policies
  • Uphold department policies and procedures regarding safety, performance, attendance, etc
  • Meet set productivity, reliability, and quality standards and goals
  • Maintain positive working relationships and good communication across all levels of the organization
  • Manually pile/unpile bundles of newspapers or free-standing inserts

What you will bring:
  • Above-average problem-solving skills necessary to monitor and troubleshoot the tier strapping machine
  • Ability to read and distinguish different insert versions
  • Potential to change work assignments on short notice and maintain flexibility in scheduling
  • Comfortable working in a high-volume warehouse environment around forklifts, pallet jacks, and heavy machinery
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Warehouse experience preferred, but not required
  • Physical capacity to stand, walk, pile, reach with hands and arms, use hands to handle or feel, and lift bundles weighing up to 50 pounds

Benefits and Compensation:
The hourly wage is $15.40. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).
