Both New Rbt and Rbt roles are involved in providing behavioral support, with the main difference being that New Rbt may be in the process of obtaining certification or just starting out, while Rbt typically has the certification completed and is fully qualified to work independently under supervision.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a new Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and why are they important?

To thrive as a new Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), you need a high school diploma, completion of 40 hours of training, and passing the RBT certification exam to demonstrate foundational knowledge in applied behavior analysis (ABA). Familiarity with data collection tools, behavior intervention plans, and clinical recording systems is essential. Strong communication, patience, and the ability to follow instructions precisely are crucial soft skills for working effectively with clients and supervising BCBAs. These skills and qualifications are vital for delivering consistent, effective behavioral interventions and ensuring client progress and safety.

What are Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs)?

Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) are paraprofessionals certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) to implement behavior intervention plans designed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). RBTs primarily work with individuals with autism and other developmental disorders, helping them develop social, communication, and life skills. They collect data, follow strict protocols, and provide direct therapy under supervision. Becoming an RBT requires completing specific training, passing a competency assessment, and maintaining certification through ongoing supervision and continuing education.

What are some common challenges new Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) face during their first months on the job?

New RBTs often encounter challenges such as adapting to diverse client needs, mastering data collection methods, and effectively implementing behavior intervention plans. Building rapport with clients and maintaining consistent communication with supervising Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) are also key hurdles. However, most organizations provide ongoing training, mentorship, and team support to help new RBTs develop confidence and competence in their daily responsibilities.

Job description

At Woven Care, we've intentionally built a culture that embraces challenges: we are both incredibly driven by clinical excellence while encouraging fun (we do work with kids after all!). We believe deeply in the day-to-day impact of our work while also providing opportunities for long-term career growth and leadership opportunities for our clinical team members. We offer real flexibility and manageable caseloads while supporting our team members and being truly collaborative on every case. We think this is what makes Woven Care such a special place to work and why such special people choose to work with us!

What You'll Earn

  • $20–$24/hour based on experience and certification
  • $500 sign-on bonus for all new RBT hires
  • Up to $9,000 in tuition assistance — whether you're pursuing your BCBA, a master's degree, or a completely different path in healthcare
  • 30 guaranteed hours/week — client cancellations don't affect your paycheck
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • PTO that grows with your tenure + six paid holidays

Your Schedule

Clinic-based, Monday–Friday. No weekends unless desired, no late nights. Typical shifts run within an 8:00 AM–5:00 PM window, with the occasional in-home session (training provided).

Where This Role Can Take You

We invest in your next step, whatever that looks like:

  • Lead RBT — train new teammates while deepening your clinical skills
  • Mentor RBT — shape clinic culture and support fellow RBTs
  • QASP-S — oversee treatment quality across ABA programs
  • BCBA — we support RBTs pursuing their master's degree with internships and tuition assistance
  • OT, PT, SLP, or healthcare administration — we'll support whichever direction you choose

What You'll Do Day-to-Day

  • Deliver one-on-one ABA sessions with children with autism, ADHD, and other developmental challenges
  • Bring individualized treatment plans to life through hands-on, child-centered sessions
  • Collaborate daily with BCBAs and a multidisciplinary team (OT, PT, SLP)
  • Track session data and celebrate real progress with kids and families
  • Work primarily in our clinic, with occasional in-home sessions

What You'll Need

  • Active RBT certification or have completed your 40-hour training and are scheduled to sit for your exam. Or join us as a BT and work towards your certification with us!
  • High school diploma or equivalent (proof required upon hire)
  • 18 years or older
  • Reliable transportation, Monday–Friday
  • Genuine passion for working with children

This role involves active, physical work: you'll be on your feet, on the floor, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs. It's energetic by design.
